This Sr Software Engineer invests in our People as they primarily support the TRIO and OQS Record Keeping applications. This role joins the Technology Crew Training Team, and the applications they support are used by Southwest's Pilots and Flight Instructors to coordinate and track pilot & instructor status and their ongoing training needs, as well as the resources they use (e.g. flight simulators).

Crew Training is undergoing significant modernization primarily leveraging cloud services (AWS) and React/JS, using the SAFe development methodology, to support our Cohearts that are critical to our day-to-day operations.

This Sr Software Engineer joins an important space in Technology, where they'll have the opportunity to learn and grow in their expertise each day.


Additional details:
This role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require travel for trainings, meetings, conferences, etc.

Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in a remote location, away from our Corporate Campus.

Please note, while this is a remote position, there is limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work off-site.


Those ineligible locations are:
Alaska,Delaware, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. is required, and no current or future work authorization sponsorship available.

Job SummaryAdvanced experience in designing, writing program code, testing, documenting, and implementing functionally appropriate, technically sound, and well-integrated application systems in accordance with Customer requirements, organizational methodologies, and standards.

Identifies and prevents production problems and implement immediate resolution efforts across technology areas. Mentoring Software Engineers, holistic vision of organization and impact, focusing on "shift left" activities.
Responsibilities

Drive the technical direction and feature roadmap of large-scale cloud systemsServe as a technical lead contributing to and directing the efforts of development teams, including internal and external team membersDetermines operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutionsDrives detailed definition of feature requirements through discussions with product managers and customersSupports continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and new technologiesPrepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programmingEvaluates code to ensure that it is valid, is properly structured, meets industry standards, and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systemsMentor Software Engineers to allow for skill/knowledge development through advice, coaching, and training opportunitiesUpdate job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizationsMay perform other job duties as directed by Employee's LeadersKnowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required:

Advanced-level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in software development and methodologiesPreferred: Experience building full stack web applications using Typescript/React and Java/Spring BootPreferred: Experience / strong advocate for automated testing using Cypress, Junit, Mockito, or similarPreferred: Experience mentoring / guiding team members' learning, including the introduction of new ideas and technologiesPreferred: Experience working with Agile methodologies, preferably Scrum or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)Licensing/Certification

Competitive market salary from $137,250 per year to $152,500 per year* depending on qualifications and experience.
