JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Janssen R&D is recruiting for a Vice President and Head of Cell Therapy (CT) Discovery within Therapeutics Discovery. Leading discovery activities in the competitive field of cell therapy, the Head of Cell Therapy Discovery will aggressively build and sustain Janssen's state of the art platform, delivering clinical candidates each year. This role will report into the Global Head of Therapeutics Discovery within Janssen Research and Development and serve on the Therapeutics Discovery leadership team, helping to formulate the strategic direction and priorities for discovery within Janssen.

The Global Head will be responsible for building and maintaining capabilities to support our cell therapy pipeline by driving technical and intellectual leadership across programs. This leader will be responsible for partnering closely with the cell therapy teams in the Oncology Therapeutic Area and Discovery Product Development and Supply (DPDS) to drive end to end sustainability and commercial viability of both current and future CT programs within Janssen.

The successful candidate will be accountable for:

providing strategic, resourcing, technical, and people leadership for the Cell Therapy discovery organization in Therapeutics Discovery (currently ~40 scientists located in Spring House, PA)

driving the discovery strategy and execution for both our autologous and allogeneic CT platforms, with global impact across oncology, other therapeutic areas, and functions

influencing the execution of existing programs, shaping the future of the Janssen Cell Therapy pipeline, and acting as a senior internal and external expert and industry thought leader

· integrating with TD, DPDS and the Therapeutic Areas to build a world class Drug Discovery organization

There are several critical success factors required for this role. First, the Head will be responsible for implementing a forward looking, ambitious, highly competitive vision and strategy for the Cell Therapy modality, in line with the strategy of Therapeutics Discovery and the overall Janssen Research and Development strategy. This includes: (i) further refinement of autologous CART capabilities to improve commercial viability; (ii) development of a viable allogeneic platform to enable expansion of cell therapy as a therapeutic modality for Janssen; (iii) optimization of therapeutics through discovery and validation of intracellular signal motifs and antigen binders and developing the next generation targeting strategy; (iv) supporting multiple strategic collaborations.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate exemplary leadership skills together with managerial expertise to engage, motivate, and build strong, productive teams within the Cell Therapy Discovery team. He/She will be a role model for our leadership imperatives and will translate these into specific actions/initiatives with both the Therapeutics Discovery team and our external partners. He/She will actively recruit, mentor, and develop outstanding drug discovery scientists and create a culture of engagement, scientific rigor, program impact, and innovation. Additionally, he/she will place an emphasis on building a diverse team and supporting diversity in all its many different aspects within our organization.
