Job Description

This role focuses on providing dispatch services at Belmont University, safeguarding the campus, responding to emergencies, and assisting individuals in need. In addition, there is an opportunity to receive a shift differential.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive and redirect incoming calls regarding emergencies, suspicious activities, preliminary crime investigations, and service requests.
  • Coordinate response efforts among Security personnel, campus responders, and local emergency agencies.
  • Ensure all necessary notifications are completed for incidents and keep the shift supervisor informed. Notify concerned individuals about the response and outcome, documenting everything in the Daily Highlights and Activity Log.
  • Assist individuals with inquiries related to access control, events, parking, and ID card issuance.
  • Monitor the electronic access control system, input access schedules, troubleshoot programming issues, and conduct regular system checks. Identify and report any access control problems for resolution. Issue parking permits and educate individuals on parking regulations.
  • Distribute authorized keys to students, staff, and contractors. Monitor security and alarm systems, coordinate responses to alarms, and review surveillance footage for investigations.
  • Document all relevant information accurately on dispatch cards and logs. Prepare daily activity reports and other requested documentation.
  • Supervise student staff working in OCS, handling phone calls, radio communications, and walk-in inquiries. Address public complaints with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service through empathetic and respectful interactions in person, over the phone, or through electronic channels.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for certification as an Unarmed Security Guard in Tennessee.
  • Minimum age of 18 for unarmed security guard registration.
  • US citizenship or permanent residency required.
  • Must be mentally competent and of good moral character.
  • Cannot have a history of substance abuse, addiction, or certain criminal convictions.
  • Completion of state-mandated training and background checks.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least three years of relevant experience demonstrating reliability, good judgment, customer service skills, and problem-solving abilities. An Associate's Degree in criminal justice, business, or a related field is preferred.

Experience

  • 0-2 years of office or customer service experience. Proficiency in MS Office and Internet usage. Ability to work with various software systems related to security and access control.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, ability to follow instructions, remain calm under pressure, and handle critical incidents efficiently. Training in incident management systems is a plus.
  • Basic dispatch certification or the ability to obtain certification is required. Familiarity with Incident Command and National Incident Management Systems is beneficial.
