Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor

What We Offer: A temporary position for 10 weeks of the summer, with competitive pay, a great work schedule (Mondays – Thursdays) starting June 3rd. Opportunities to learn and promote Ahtna language and culture and participate in fun and action-packed activities with camp participants in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.

Here's What you Can Expect in a Typical Day:

As our Summer Camp Counselor, you will be part of a team helping to plan and assist with a schedule of fun and culturally enriching weekday, indoor and outdoor activities for up to 20 children enrolled in the Ya Ne Dah Ah School Day camp.

Here's What We're Looking For:

Someone who knows how to care for children of various ages and backgrounds, and how to patiently assist with a child who may be having a tough day.

  • Someone who can provide clear communication with co-workers, supervisor and caregivers regarding any challenges and suggestions.
  • Someone who is reliable with good time management skills to ensure scheduled activities are followed and there are adequate times for bathroom breaks, snack breaks, loading and unloading from the van.
  • A willingness to learn Ahtna language and culture and utilize it in daily activities with children.
  • Must have a valid Alaska driver's license. We will train you and pay for your American Red Cross/ CPR Certification.
  • Someone who can pass a pre-employment and random drug tests and pass a pre-employment state and federal background check.

Physical Requirements:

You need the mobility for light hiking, stooping to assist children with tying shoelaces, carrying/holding young participants when they need comfort and the stamina to play and stay engaged with energetic children.

Certificates and Licenses Required: A valid Alaska Driver's license is required for this position and the ability to be insured on CVTC's vehicle insurance policy. Must be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.

Drug Testing and Background Check: This position is subject to pre-hire and random drug testing. This position requires you to complete and pass a pre-employment state and federal background check as a condition of employment.

AN/AI Preference: As allowed in P.L , preference for employment will be given to Alaska Native and American Indian peoples.
