Job Goal: Utilize leadership, advocacy, and collaboration. School-based speech-language pathologists provide prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice and fluency. The services are designed to help children meet their educational goals in support of the district's mission.

Performance Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Organizes the program and works cooperatively with school personnel to accomplish the goals and objectives of the local education agency.
  2. Provides services that support the curriculum and instruction for students with disabilities to ensure that federal, state, and local Board of Education standards are being met.
  3. Consults with school teams regarding expected communication skills for students and makes recommendations if students demonstrate speech-language deficiencies that may adversely affect their ability to advance in the curriculum.
  4. Follows federal, state, and local due process procedures to identify, evaluate, and diagnoses students who may need speech-language services.
  5. As part of the school's eligibility team, follows federal, state, and local guidelines for determining eligibility for speech-language services.
  6. Plans evidence-based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students.
  7. These interventions are designed to provide the students to access to and advance within the curriculum.
  8. Manages the facilities, materials and equipment, necessary to the delivery of services.
  9. Maintains confidentiality of students and student records
  10. Adheres to local, state, federal regulations and ethical practices when providing all speech language services. This includes, but is not limited to, completing procedural documentation, evaluating students, determining eligibility, developing appropriate IEPs based on individual student needs, and implementing services.
  11. Communicates with educational teams, including parents, regarding the students' speech language needs, services, and progress.
  12. Attend and participate in professional learning activities.
  13. Attend in-school faculty meetings and speech department meetings.
  14. Submit periodic reports to the Director or Coordinator of Services for Exceptional Students.
  15. Other duties as assigned.
  16. Other Functions:
    Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit may be met.
    Working Environment:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:
    Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 10% lifting/carrying and 80% standing/walking.
