About the Server Position at The Longfellow Hotel


We are seeking a vibrant and dedicated individual to join our Food & Beverage Team at the prestigious Longfellow Hotel. As a key team member, you will collaborate closely with the bartender to deliver exceptional service in our upscale yet welcoming lobby bar atmosphere. The ideal candidate will excel in curating unforgettable experiences through personalized service, anticipating guests' needs, and ensuring a seamless stay. Guest satisfaction relies on the collective efforts of all team members working cooperatively, acknowledging each other's contributions and significance.



What You'll Be Doing:

  • Presenting food and beverage menu options to guests with engaging and colorful descriptions of each item's origin, flavor, and preparation techniques
  • Acknowledging and fulfilling guest requirements, ensuring satisfaction, offering recommendations, and promptly addressing any concerns or requests
  • Serving and taking orders from bar patrons, providing detailed descriptions of items, and maintaining expertise on available beverages and food offerings
  • Accurately closing guest checks, processing payments, and handling voided checks or complimentary items professionally
  • Assisting with additional tasks and projects as assigned by management
  • Being knowledgeable about the menu offerings at Five of Clubs, Twinflower's, and In-Room Dining
  • Adhering to workplace regulations and conduct standards set by Longfellow and SLH
  • Fostering a harmonious and professional environment with colleagues and supervisors
  • Supporting In-Room Dining orders promptly when necessary

Who We're Looking For:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of prior experience in a luxury dining establishment preferred
  • Excellent English language skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to carry and balance trays with multiple items
  • Capacity to acquire necessary food handling or alcohol serving certifications as mandated by local or state authorities
  • Familiarity with Portland and surrounding areas beneficial, but not mandatory
  • Capable of standing for extended periods and effectively communicating with guests throughout the shift
  • Positive, flexible attitude with availability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-demand setting
  • Proficient in processing cash, credit card transactions, and room charges accurately
  • Possesses legal authorization to work in the United States
