Job Summary

Under general supervision, assists in supervising assigned staff and in ensuring customer satisfaction and safety for employees and visitors to the seasonal, outdoor Parks and Recreation Department aquatic facilities; the Landa Park Aquatic Complex and the City Tube Chute.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
  • Assists in ensuring the delivery of high quality and consistent aquatic programs and services to the community.
  • Provides customer service and assistance to patrons; responds to various types of facility/program inquiries; facilitates the timely and effective resolution of patron complaints.
  • Prepares and assists in maintaining facilities including but not limited to supervising and participating in maintenance at the City Tube Chute and Landa Park Aquatic Complex (LPAC) facilities to ensure a safe condition and to meet community needs; water quality data collection, recording and reporting; must be in compliance with the City's strategic objectives, policies and procedures, and State and Federal laws.
  • Active supervision of assigned staff to evaluate proper lifeguarding techniques and consistent rule enforcement as well as proper cash handling from Cashiers; documents and reports staff performance and training, following established operation procedures.
  • Provides supervision and assistance to Assistant Aquatic Coordinators
  • Facilitate pre-season staff trainings
  • Assists aquatic staff with activity programming including guest party bookings and private reservations; monitors facility bookings and enrollment; facilitates staff in-service trainings and certification classes.
  • Assists in promoting departmental programs and city-wide special events coordination and setup.
  • Manages a variety of administrative activities including computer records and cash management, accident/injury reports, work activity reports, attendance and sales reports and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least two (2) seasons of experience working in a fast-paced aquatic facility, with additional experience preferred.
  • At least one (1) season of experience supervising aquatic staff, with additional experience preferred.
  • At least two (2) seasons of experience with aquatic programs, such as swim lessons, with additional experience preferred.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain within two (2) weeks of employment: American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard/First Aid certification, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification, and Oxygen Administration certification.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification is preferred.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Requirements

Required Knowledge of:
  • Operational characteristics, services and activities of an aquatic facility management and program planning and coordination.
  • Principles and practices of customer service.
  • Principles and practices of employee supervision.
Required Skill in:
  • Interpreting customer and facility needs and solving customer service and public relations issues.
  • Analyzing problems, providing alternatives, and identifying solutions in support of established goals.
  • Responding to emergencies and determining corrective actions using available resources.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees, facility lessees and guests, event sponsors and vendors, and the general public.
  • Effective, clear and concise communication, both verbally and in writing.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
  • Work is performed in an office environment and outdoors in all weather conditions, with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, wet surfaces, pool maintenance equipment, infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens; is subject to sitting, standing, bending and reaching for extended periods of time; and must be able to safely pull, push, lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be able to work irregular hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays, early mornings and late evenings.
  • May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
