Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with school staff, social workers, counselors, and other mental health professionals.
  • Act as a pivotal link between schools, families, and the community to ensure positive results for all students.
  • Support school curriculum and mental health goals to enhance student achievements.
  • Promote inclusivity and equity by delivering professional development in integrated SEL instruction, behavior interventions, culturally responsive practices, and classroom management.

  • Deliver consultation, training, coaching, and support to staff, parents, and administrators for optimal social and emotional learning.
  • Conduct site-based assessments and design interventions in collaboration with school leadership.
  • Provide direct guidance to students through mental health groups or individual sessions.
  • Develop and execute programs aligned with the CASEL Framework for students across different educational levels.

Services may include:
  • Whole group sessions in various settings.
  • Small group sessions both in-class and in communities.
  • Individual sessions to address specific needs.
  • Integrated support during instructional time.
  • Design and execution of mentoring strategies.
  • Professional development, training, and resources for staff.
  • Parent and family sessions for supporting students' needs at home.
  • Suicide prevention, risk assessment, and follow-up support for students and staff.
  • Regular communication with families to foster partnerships and ensure engagement.


Qualifications:


  • Empathetic and compassionate with a firm belief in enabling expert instruction for every child.
  • Adherence to professional ethics and knowledge of evidence-based programs aligned with the CASEL Framework.
  • Respect for diversity and effective communication across various backgrounds.
  • Ability to design professional development and mentor adult learners.
  • Proficiency in community counseling resources and counseling techniques.
  • Experience in monitoring programs for continuous improvement.
  • Expertise in behavioral methodology for students with challenges.
  • Skilled in using technology to enhance instruction and communication.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Respectful of diverse community traditions.

Experience:


  • Prior experience with at-risk children or those with social/behavioral needs.
  • Background in school counseling or related fields preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge in interventions to accelerate student growth preferred.
  • Experience in staff training and coaching preferred.
  • Proficiency in Social Emotional Learning and Trauma Informed Practices preferred.

Licenses and Education:


  • Master's degree in counseling or related field.
  • New York State Mental Health Counselor certification.


Compensation:


Compensation for this role at SSO varies based on factors like office location, skills, and experience,
averaging $50-70 per hour along with a comprehensive benefits package.
