Hitachi Astemo Rock Spring, Inc. was established in 2000 and supplies aluminum knuckles to Honda and Subaru. We are located in Rock Spring, GA, and operate on 3 shifts with 400 employees. We have three main manufacturing departments, Casting, Machining, and Press Assembly. We are part of Hitachi Astemo, inc. with 90,000 employees worldwide.

Tasks and Responsibilities

:

The Gage Calibration / Special Projects Engineer will oversee the Gage Calibration Data Base
Design Gages per the requirements from the part drawings and interact with Gage vendors.

The interaction will include creating the Gage drawing and submitting it to the Gage vendors, this will also include receiving Gage Quotes and negotiating cost and delivery timing.

Special Projects direction will be assigned from the Asst. QM / Quality Engineer Team / Quality Department Head.
This Engineer position will also support Production Management with Special projects and Continuous Improvement efforts.

This position will also support ISO / IATF auditing and follow up reviews and meetings as directed by the USRSP1 ISO / IATF Lead Auditor.

Assist Quality Assembly Engineering, this could Include supporting Change Point Requests such as IPPAAR / ISR and any other customer specific requirements.

Support may be needed with Supplier Quality, daily ASSY QE functions.

When accomplishing tasks, remember to work toward meeting overall company goals established which include, OSHA safety compliance, ISO 14001 Environmental Compliance, Ethical & Legal compliance, Customer Quality, Production to Plan, and Delivery Performance.

Safety & Environmental:


Promotes a safety-first attitude and provides a safe work environment by obtaining knowledge and then following all required OSHA regulations which may or may not include Personal Protective Equipment, LOTO, Crane, Powered Lifts, Machine Guarding, Chemicals, Fall Protection, Fire Protection, Incident reporting, Respirator, Hearing conservation, Confined Spaces, and others.

Coordinates safety and environment repair activities if related to his department (Gages and Special Projects).
Quality :

Maintain and update the Gage Calibration Data base.
Create Gage drawings per the part drawing requirements.
Meet all Quality Procedures / Policies and / or Standards.
Support Quality Related Special Projects under the direction of the Asst. QM / Quality Engineer Team / Quality Department Head. Additional special projects may include the production departments.
Maintain Gages on the production floor including calibration and documentation.
Creates work instructions and standards for gage use. Updates as needed.
Trains and coordinates training related to gage use and care.
Supports ISO / IAFT auditing and all other USRSP1 auditing as needed. Follow up on open items and closure of findings.
Support / Create yearly budget plans for investment and expenses under the direction of the Quality Department Head.
Acquire training to support all USRSP1 testing / measuring equipment. Be able to operate the equipment and train others.
Delivery

:

Responsible for ensuring all Gages are maintained and are present at the required locations.
Responsible for communication to Quality / Production management any concerns.
Productivity :

Timely completion of Calibration per required frequency.
Meets readiness for model launches in relation to gage creation and distribution.
Suggest and Implement improvement ideas.
Utilize a Team approach with Special projects to ensure timely completion.
Works with all departments to ensure closure of open audit findings.
Reporting:

Supports Business Plan Targets and monitors measurable goals based on Business Plan objectives.
Reports all info to Senior Staff Engineer / Quality Department Head and management as needed.

Creates and presents reports as needed showing examples of before and after improvements, special projects, training, and audit reports as needed.

Qualifications

Preferred Skills:

Blueprint reading, hand tools use, measuring tools experience. Excellent understanding of gage calibration and gage repair.
Good problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication skills, able to build friendly work relationships.
Familiar with manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other office programs.
Proficient in Auto Cad.
Minimum Experienced Preferred:

HS Diploma or GED.
Previous experience in related field.
2-5 years Quality Automotive Manufacturing experience.
Key Metrics Responsibility:

Reduced cost.
Meet Quality Business Plan Objectives.
Kaizen (Continuous Improvement).
Physical Demands:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, to use hand to finger; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Duties may include walking, reaching, moving gages and / or equipment using approved material handling devices.
May require lifting of weights up to 5 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.
