The Tax Accountant plays an integral role in ensuring Radius Recycling is complying with its corporate tax filing and reporting requirements. As a key team member, this individual will assist in preparing and documenting various corporate tax filings, as well as engage in critical tax research and planning activities to minimize risks and overall tax burdens. Core responsibilities include the preparation of tax filings and supporting documentation required to substantiate filing positions. This includes, but is not limited to, development of auditable working papers, performing technical research, developing ad-hoc analyses, reviewing accounting detail and supporting documentation, and tax return preparation using available software. Tax filings include corporate and partnership income tax returns on federal, state and local levels. This position consults with internal tax and financial personnel, with outside consultants, and with government officials.

The ideal candidate will have a desire to continually learn and further develop their technical tax and accounting skill sets, and business acumen.

Essential Functions:

  • Income Tax Compliance: Preparation of the annual income tax returns and supporting workpapers for federal and state jurisdiction filings. Maintain and update the fixed asset system for tax depreciation purposes. Organization and tracking of tax calendar items and compliance due dates including preparation of extensions and quarterly estimated tax filings. Process tax payments and prepare journal entries related to those tax payments.
  • Tax Accounting: Responsible for the preparation of schedules supporting the annual and quarterly tax provision calculations, including effective tax rate, uncertain tax position analysis, deferred taxes and tax account reconciliations.
  • Tax Research & Audit Support: Research various issue utilizing tax research software. Preparation of timely responses for federal and state income tax notices.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate to execute projects to streamline tax processes and improve upon deliverable timelines to smooth workloads. Examples include utilizing technology to manipulate and transform data and enhancing workpaper integration with tax software.

Job Conditions:

Private office environment. Rare out-of-town travel overnight to visit other business locations or attend meetings and seminars. The job requires occasional evening and weekend work resulting in overtime, particularly in connection with preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provisions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree preferred and at least 2 years of experience in a public accountant role and/or tax department of a multinational corporation.
  • Preferred candidates have a current CPA license.
  • Knowledge of tax code compliance and procedures for corporations and partnerships.
  • Detail-oriented, organized and able to deliver on timelines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with Oracle general ledger system and OneSource is a plus
