As our Principal AWS Cloud Engineer, you will be the master of all things AWS, utilizing your skills to create and execute upon a governance strategy which will allow us to scale ever larger as a tech company. You'll be engaged with everyone from our most senior leadership to individual developers struggling with an intricate AWS problem, and you'll carry a gravitas nearly unmatched across the entire tech org as you do so.

What you'll do:

  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy, prioritizing and executing upon their own roadmap against clear objectives and metric goals.
  • Define and execute an overall multi-account governance strategy appropriate for a tech company with hundreds of engineers and 100+ million visits/month (top ~50 in US).
  • Design and implement IAM policies sufficient to secure a sprawling infrastructure.
  • Establish cost guardrails and transparency mechanisms so that teams are better able to control and see their contributions to our spend.
  • Create and own a change management program that allows teams to use AWS within safe confines where they're unable to harm themselves or the overall infrastructure.
  • Be the go-to subject matter expert for all things AWS on our team, whether that be on infrastructure-as-code, scaling strategies, incident response, multi-zone availability intricacies, and so many other things within the realm of how to best leverage our investment in AWS.

  • 10+ years of experience and expertise as an owner of AWS policies at a company with tens of millions of dollars in annual spend.
  • Software development background such that you can hold a conversation with an engineer about their challenges and not miss a beat.
  • Proven ability to have a calm, steady hand when facing extremely complex, organization-wide problems that you're asked to solve.
  • A track record of designing and implementing highly scalable, cost-effective, and secure, architectures.
  • Excellent communication skills such that you can hold a conversation with executives searching for details without losing sight of what's important.
