GENERAL SUMMARY



Managing landscaping projects from start to finish can be a fun gig From the initial planning to the actual execution, you'll have your hands full. Leading a team of groundskeepers, assigning tasks, providing training, and ensuring top-notch work is what you'll be up to. Checking that everything from litter collection to tree trimming is in tip-top shape. Supervising manual labor and operating power tools is also on your to-do list. Inspecting grounds, prioritizing tasks, that's all part of the game.



CORE SCOPE OF POSITION

  • Handpicking just the right plants, materials, and equipment for each project, with a focus on sustainability is key.
  • Making sure safety rules are followed and best practices are in place for all landscaping activities is a must.
  • Keeping landscapes healthy, attractive, and functional over the long haul is a big deal.
  • Building and maintaining solid relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors is crucial for timely project delivery.
  • Staying updated on the latest trends, technologies, and landscaping best practices and sharing that knowledge with the team is essential.
  • Presenting reports, budgets, and proposals to management, including the Tribal Council when required, is part of the deal.
  • Setting up weekly work schedules, assignments, and ensuring top-notch quality of work from maintenance workers is on your plate.
  • Getting involved in the hiring and disciplinary processes as needed is part of the job.
  • Providing on-the-job training for staff within the scope of maintenance operations is crucial.
  • Handling non-emergency requests from tribal members and government and supervising subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors is part of the game.
  • Ensuring that the landscaping in all public tribal areas is well-maintained and in tip-top shape is crucial.
  • Fixing any immediate problems with tools on hand and planning for those that need more attention is essential.
  • Diagnosing equipment issues, weeding out unwanted plant species, mowing lawns, trimming edges, watering plants, and maintaining irrigation systems are all part of the routine.


SUPERVISION

  • Overseeing a team of Groundskeepers is part of the role.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Being well-versed in plant species, landscaping techniques, irrigation systems, and hardscape materials is crucial for the job.
  • Having extensive experience in landscape design, installation, and maintenance is key.
  • Demonstrating strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage a team is essential.
  • Possessing advanced knowledge of gardening techniques, plant species, and maintenance is a must-have.
  • Having thorough knowledge of safety practices is essential.
  • Showcasing top-notch project management skills, including budgeting and scheduling, is a key requirement.
  • Being able to lead a team, delegate tasks effectively, and ensure high standards of work is crucial for success.
  • Demonstrating excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and interacting professionally with team and tribal members is crucial.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations in landscaping is important.
  • Holding a valid driver's license and a clean driving record is a must.
  • Being quick to respond to commands in emergencies is crucial.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stress environment is a requirement.
  • Having flexibility in schedule to meet the Tribe's needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is crucial.
  • Exhibiting cultural sensitivity and embracing diversity is important.


Required Experience



EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION



Having an Associates degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, or related field is preferred.



EXPERIENCE

  • With over 5 years of experience in landscaping, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role, is required.
