Description
UMC Physicians is looking for a skilled full-time Neurosurgery Coder to join our team of specialty coders.

Under general supervision, the Neurosurgery Coder reviews, analyzes, and ensures the accuracy of diagnoses and procedures provided by healthcare providers.

The Neurosurgery Coder is responsible for appropriately coding and billing clinic and hospital procedures to guarantee correct reimbursement, and ensuring accurate and timely insurance claims filing and payment processing.


Availability Requirements:

  • Monday - Friday | 8:00 - 5:00
  • Hybrid role with 2-4 days in the office
  • Occasional evenings may be required at month or quarter end

Essential Job Functions



  • Review and assign CPT diagnoses
  • Code outpatient and inpatient charges daily
  • Monitor third-party payments regularly
  • Investigate denial of claims
  • Address billing queries from patients and insurers
  • Handle billing correspondence
  • Compile data and prepare reports as needed
  • Carry out additional administrative tasks as instructed

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



  • Medical operations and personnel management skills
  • Proficiency in billing programs and procedures
  • Proficient in coding and medical terminology
  • Ability to handle confidential information sensitively

Minimum Qualifications



  • High school diploma
  • Active CPC Certification
  • In-depth knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding systems
  • Over 2 years of experience in neurosurgery coding

Environmental Conditions


The Neurosurgery Coder operates in a well-lit, ventilated facility. The work environment is fast-paced and involves multitasking. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens is minimal.

Physical Requirements


This role involves extended periods of sitting and demands hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for office equipment operation. Typical hearing and eyesight are necessary for reporting and communication.
