Job Title: Middle School English/Language Arts Teacher

Reporting to: Principal/Assistant Principal

Description: The Middle School Language Arts Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive language arts program in compliance with state and West Virginia Board of Education and county policies.

Requirements: Must hold or qualify for a West Virginia Professional Teaching or Temporary Certificate endorsed for teaching English, English/language arts or language arts at the specific grade level(6-8).

Duration: 200 Days

Responsibilities: The Middle School English/Language Arts Teacher duties include:
  • To follow the approved program of study by the West Virginia Board of Education and the county Board of Education.
  • To create a learning-friendly classroom environment.
  • To employ instructional management system models that enhance student learning.
  • To track student progress towards achieving instructional goals and objectives.
  • To maintain effective communication with the educational community, parents, and guardians regularly.
  • To participate in professional duties.
  • To execute the state and county testing program following state and county policies.
  • To showcase proficiency in the knowledge and use of technology standards.
  • To adhere to federal and state-mandated initiatives at the middle school level.
  • To manage equipment inventory and ensure proper equipment storage and condition.
  • To collaborate with team members to create schedules for all assigned students.
  • To allocate time for parent, student, or parent/student conferences as needed.
  • To complete and submit all reports promptly as required by legislation, the West Virginia Department of Education, and/or the county Board of Education.
  • To promptly report any situation that may jeopardize student and staff health and safety.
  • To identify and recommend screening and evaluation for students with learning challenges.
  • To inform the principal of any situation requiring immediate action to prevent disruption of the instructional program.
  • To fulfill designated duty assignments from the principal.
  • To update parents/guardians on students' progress and/or shortcomings.
  • To take charge of the conduct of assigned students.
  • To supervise students at all times following state, county, and school guidelines.
  • To attend all mandatory meetings.
  • To meet annual continuing education requirements and attend other necessary training programs.
  • To manage student attendance as per legal regulations and county policy.
  • To accept reasonable extra duties to support a successful school program.
  • To uphold professional work ethics.
  • To enhance and maintain professional skills.
  • To execute any other duties as assigned by the principal.
