Assesses, develops, evaluates and teaches continuing educational programs for MMHS and auxiliary staff. Plans, assesses and implements programs that meet patient educational needs. Performs other related duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE DIMENSIONS AND TASKS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Develops, coordinates, implements, evaluates and directs MMHS staff in on-going education and training.
Ensures that programs are based on QA issues, new equipment, medications, policies and any other related needs.
a. Demonstrates the ability to develop and set-up instructional materials; set-up and run patient care equipment for training and in-services; and assists in the set-up of demonstrations of equipment by Vendors'/Manufacturers' representatives.
b. Develops, coordinates, and supervises orientation and educational programs for MMHS and auxiliary staff.
c. Management of Special Educational Projects is well coordinated.
d. Plans and coordinates conferences, in-services and seminars. Uses community resources appropriately.
e. Teaches classes, provides individual instruction. Assists with ideas and creativity for developing educational programs.
f. Performs continuous evaluations of training needs; determines effectiveness of educational programs.
g. Interacts professionally with other departments to determine their specific educational needs and works collaboratively in coordinating educational programs that will enhance those needs.
h. Supervises and directs on-going educational and training programs.
i. Assists in the Budget Process for the financial needs of providing the educational programs and projects.
j. Collaborates effectively with educational partnerships, student internships and any other related organizations.
k. Assists department heads in planning, implementing, and evaluating staff development programs for units.
l. Serves as a resource person to others such as nursing, medical staff, instructors, students and others needing assistance.
m. Manages and coordinates multiple projects professionally, effectively and efficiently.

2. Assists in developing, implementing, directing and evaluating patient educational programs that are sensitive to culture and linguistic needs. Educational programs are modified to age specific needs for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, geriatrics and the general population. Develops and ensures that patient materials include the appropriate education and information that is sensitive to cultural, linguistics, and age appropriateness.

3. Develops, implements, and evaluates on-going training and education for MMHS and auxiliary staff to ensure the staff's competence in performing the assigned duties as specified by their job description.
a. Demonstrates knowledge in clinical skills and competencies that are being taught. Teaches and educates others.
b. Adheres to the MMHS's policies and procedures. Implements them in the educational trainings and processes.
c. Utilizes qualified resources to teach skills and competencies.
d. Sets-up, demonstrates, and teaches using of classroom equipment, AV equipment, and office equipment.

4. On-going training and education for appropriate documentation is ensured.
a. Demonstrates appropriate documentation of records for in-service training and education. Instructs others in this process.
b. Follows proper procedure for ordering office supplies and materials and trains others in the procedure.
c. Ensures documentation of MMHS, educational, and regulatory requirements/standards are meet in a timely manner.

5. Professional responsibilities to enhance Nurse Practice Act.
a. Functions within the scope of the California Nurse practice Act.
b. Keeps all certification(s) current. Certifications to instruct are encouraged.
c. Demonstrates problem solving and critical care thinking in process development, teaching and competencies.
d. Practice includes adhering to Regulatory Standards and Community Standards. Implements this in the education process.

6. Develops and coordinates educational classes as they relate to the age specific population served in the community. Teaches based on the experience, certifications and/or training that the nurse has for the ages listed.
