Position Summary


The Chicago School University Library seeks an energetic, innovative, service-oriented, and collaborative professional to serve as an Access Services Associate.

This is a full-time, on-campus position primarily located in at the Anaheim campus of The Chicago School. Occasional travel to the San Diego campus may also be required. Occasional remote work may be considered depending on campus operations and library needs.


Reporting to the Access Services Librarian, this position provides regular coverage of the library circulation desk in Anaheim and oversees daily operations for library materials and library student employees.

Areas of responsibility include circulation, reserves, Interlibrary Loan, stacks management, hours, and coordination with building operations staff.


This is a supervisory position that directly manages the library student employees (Federal/College Work Study) in Anaheim and San Diego.

Supervisory responsibilities include hiring, training, scheduling, and direct supervision of library student employees.

This position may also assist with remote oversight of student employees at other library locations, especially on weekends.

The preferred schedule for this position is a shifted schedule including regular weekend hours. The workweek begins on Wednesday and runs through Sunday, leaving Monday and Tuesday as days off. Occasional changes to this schedule may include evening or "weekend" (Monday-Tuesday) hours, not to exceed 37.5 hours per week.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Management

  • Hires, trains, schedules, and directly supervises the library student employees (Federal/College Work Study) in Anaheim and San Diego.
  • Assists with remote oversight of student employees at multiple library locations, especially on weekends, in cooperation with the Access Services team.
Operations

  • Manages the upkeep of physical library locations, both inperson in Anaheim and remotely for other locations.
  • Takes responsibility for circulation of library materials at all locations, including reserve materials, psychological assessments, and Interlibrary Loan materials.
  • Performs and assigns routine inventory and shelving maintenance, including the return of materials to appropriate locations, shelfreading, and materials shifting.
  • Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Customer Service

  • Fosters an environment of responsive, welcoming services and spaces, including agile responsiveness to unexpected situations.
  • Creates and maintains a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all library patrons.
  • Fosters a respectful and productive work environment.
Research & Instructional Support

  • Provides general reference services to students and faculty as needed, especially on weekends.
Professional Development

  • Identifies and integrates best practices in service, teaching and learning, and scholarly activity.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 12 years working in customer service.
  • Proficiency with basic computer technology and ability to learn technical workflows in new systems.
  • Basic knowledge of higher education and willingness to learn more about the academic environment at The Chicago School.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adopt practices promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in all aspects of the position.
  • Commitment to creating accessible and inclusive library spaces.
Ideal Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Experience working in an academic library.
  • Experience using an integrated library system (ILS), particularly Ex Libris Alma.
  • Experience supporting a psychology or health sciencesfocused program, ideally in a library position.
  • General knowledge of all aspects of Access Services.
  • Willingness, availability, and flexibility to work a combination of daytime, evening, night, and weekend hours.

Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $$24.12 to $26.12 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
