We have an exciting opening for a Project Manager specialized in Risk Management for the xEVAS (Spacesuit) Project as part of the JETS II team.

As a Risk Manager for the xEVAS Spacesuit project, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing and overseeing the risk management process throughout the project lifecycle
  • Ensuring effective integration of risk mitigation activities horizontally and vertically
  • Providing recommendations for addressing, accepting, closing, and escalating top risks to the Associate Program Manager as needed
  • Collaborating closely with the NASA xEVAS management team, EVA & Human Surface Mobility Program (EHP), other NASA divisions, and commercial partner teams to identify, document, and communicate project-related risks
  • Regularly monitoring risk mitigation plans' progress and effectiveness in line with set milestones
  • Assisting in transferring identified xEVAS risks to the appropriate department
  • Conducting training sessions for risk owners and integrators on utilizing project and program risk database tools
  • Compiling and presenting risk metrics to xEVAS Management
  • Supporting risk owners and xEVAS management in integrating risk decision-making and Continuous Risk Management (CRM) practices into daily project activities
  • Managing the escalation of concerns to Risks and from Watch Items to Risks for necessary actions
  • Maintaining awareness of Project, Program, and Center risk systems and their operations
  • Ensuring completeness in justifying risk closure and acceptance
  • Guiding risk submitters in creating risks and scoring, including assisting with the requisite tools
  • Engaging regularly with various inter-organizational disciplines, NASA System Managers, operational clients, and other stakeholders
  • Building and maintaining a professional rapport with the NASA clientele and fellow NASA support contractors
  • Undertaking any other duties as assigned


Job Requirements:

This position is open at multiple levels and candidates will be evaluated based on their experience, qualifications, and organizational needs at the time of selection.

  • Minimum educational requirement typically entails a bachelor's degree in Engineering, coupled with substantial relevant work experience. Licensure and certification may be mandatory
  • Proven track record in technical risk management within project management contexts
  • Familiarity with and past experience in delivering flight hardware at the project or program level
  • Self-driven, team-oriented individual capable of adapting to dynamic environments and fulfilling all assignments effectively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to interact proficiently with customers and management across all levels
  • Proficiency in preparing written materials and delivering presentations at varied meetings
  • Capacity to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Requisition Preferences:

  • Previous experience in project management or systems engineering
  • Familiarity with SharePoint
  • Knowledge of JSC organizations, processes, and procedures
  • Exposure to or experience with tools/processes/methodologies like Milestones Professional and Active Risk Manager (ARM)
  • Experience collaborating with NASA's international partners

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Primarily an office setting, with potential for both indoor and outdoor work depending on the task.

Physical Requirements

Duties may involve prolonged periods of sitting or standing (90% of the time). Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time) may be required.
