JOB SUMMARY: Develop coursework to support effective instruction of students who are visually impaired and blind (VIB) at the school level. Effectively deliver instruction that promotes an exemplary educational program and ensures success for all students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. They do not encompass a comprehensive inventory of the obligations and responsibilities fulfilled in this role. The approximation of frequencies and time allocation percentages are flexible and subject to the requirements of the organization. Develop, plan, prepare, and implement individualized programs of instruction for students.

Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and improve student outcomes.

Design assessment tasks that allow students to demonstrate understanding in a variety of ways and use the data to give meaningful feedback and modify instruction.

Create a classroom environment that maximizes instructional opportunity, supervise the behavior and well-being of students in the classroom and all educational settings.

Monitor student growth and progress, adapt support as needed, and maintain documentation pertinent to academic, social, and emotional progress and needs of students.

Communicate students' progress, needs, and eligibility with parents/guardians and other staff.

Participate in department, team, building, and District meetings and discussions; student and/or family conferences; social, cultural, interscholastic, and extracurricular activities; and professional growth opportunities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.
  • Master's degree
  • Three (3) years of professional, certified teaching experience
  • Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license
  • CDE Special Education Specialist - Visual Impairment (Ages 0-21) endorsement
  • Use of personal transportation or vehicle not required
  • Use of personal cell phone not required
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire
  • Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement
  • Ability and desire to work as a team member
  • Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholder groups
  • Ability to serve as a role model and an innovative and creative learner with an insatiable thirst for knowledge that stays on the cutting edge of instructional practice and pedagogy

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other qualifications relevant to the position that are strongly preferred but not mandatory for a candidate to be considered.
  • Three (3) years of special education teaching experience
  • Experience working in the public sector
  • Experience advising school clubs/co-curricular activities
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
