Description: To develop, analyze, support, implement, and evaluate comprehensive school and community-based drug and alcohol abuse prevention programs in Santa Clara County. Conduct analytical evaluation studies in support of program objectives involving complex social problems and prevention treatment models and plans.

Typical Tasks:
  • Plans, analyzes, develops, implements, and evaluates prevention and community development programs;
  • Develops, promotes, and provides workshops, seminars, training programs, and other prevention initiatives;
  • Coordinates program planning and service activities;
  • Conducts research and evaluation studies to assess program effectiveness;
  • Provides consultation, technical assistance, and advice to various groups;
  • Analyzes data for evaluating prevention models;
  • Keeps informed of current prevention trends and acts as a specialist in the field;
  • Participates in developing prevention goals and objectives;
  • Coordinates professional and community prevention networks;
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises consultants and volunteers;
  • Develops educational materials and media;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Employment Standards: Must have sufficient education, knowledge, and work experience to perform the above tasks and meet specific requirements.

Experience Note: Requires a Master's or Doctorate degree in a related field and two years of relevant professional experience.

Knowledge of:
  • Research methodology and evaluation techniques;
  • Behavior change theory;
  • Prevention program planning and implementation;
  • Community organization and training methods;
  • Socio-cultural factors affecting prevention services;
  • Current trends in prevention field.

Ability to:
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate prevention programs;
  • Problem solve in prevention programming;
  • Conduct research and evaluation studies;
  • Provide consultation and assistance;
  • Establish and maintain effective prevention networks;
  • Communicate effectively;
  • Facilitate training programs;
  • Implement school-based prevention programs;
  • Handle diverse socio-economic issues.
