Job Description:

  • Provide quality patient care, offering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision.
  • Evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans.
  • Explain the purpose and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients. Provide necessary education upon discharge to home.
  • Perform physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation to the patient.
  • Conduct chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
  • Perform suctioning of the patient via various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
  • Monitor oximetry and capnography as per policy.
  • Review patients' chest x-rays and perform 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
  • Conduct pulmonary function studies and assist with respiratory care-related procedures.
  • Perform drainage of the chest via catheter or similar device.
  • Provide tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
  • Perform arterial puncture, monitor ventilation efficiency, and report test results.
  • Follow laboratory testing policies and procedures for hospitals with moderate complexity labs.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
  • Insert and remove endotracheal tubes and set up self-test on ventilatory equipment.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and repair as needed.
  • Record treatment information and patient responses on respiratory care records and communicate with physicians.
  • Participate in shift-to-shift communication and maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging.
  • Undertake other assigned duties.
