Dedicated to providing 24/7 coverage through a team of highly skilled surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, specialized nurses, and support staff offering immediate care to patients with traumatic injuries. Engaged in close collaboration with various hospital departments treating injured individuals – including EC, ICU, Operation Room, Radiology, Blood Bank, Rehabilitation, and Orthopedic units. At the heart of the Trauma Service operation, lies a comprehensive quality improvement and patient safety program along with evidence-based injury prevention initiatives.

Scope of work

Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Trauma Registry and trauma informatics. This includes clinical case analysis, data retrieval, statistics, and presentation both internally and externally. The role involves a blend of clinical care interpretation, advanced computing, and database management. Additionally, actively involved in promoting injury prevention and trauma education through various engagements such as classes, safety fairs, screenings, and representing Corewell Health in community initiatives.

  • Identify trauma activations, admissions, transfers, and fatalities following defined clinical criteria set by the American College of Surgeons.
  • Manage Trauma Registry database by directly abstracting clinical data based on National Trauma Data Standards (NTDS).
  • Review clinical records across all care stages, from EMS and police reports to inpatient records, applying necessary codes and scores accurately.
  • Recognize and address performance improvement opportunities with guidance from the Trauma Program Manager.
  • Maintain registry software and ensure timely data submissions.
  • Analyze benchmark reports and contribute to performance enhancement strategies.
  • Utilize registry data to generate reports supporting research, performance improvement, and injury prevention efforts.
  • Engage in and develop injury prevention programs tailored to community needs and trauma program requirements.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing is mandatory.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Essential to complete eight hours of registry-specific continuing education each year.
  • Minimum two years of recent nursing experience in critical care, emergency department, or surgical services with a growing interest in trauma care.
  • Proficiency in computer usage, including Windows, MS Office programs, and managing large databases.
  • Prior experience in teaching or training programs is advantageous.
  • State of Michigan RN License is a prerequisite.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification from ENA Emergency Nurses Association within 1 year.
