Job Overview


Western Washington University is currently looking for a visionary Campus Architect to join their team in Bellingham, WA. The university, known for its exceptional educational programs, seeks someone who can lead physical facility planning and development activities autonomously. The ideal candidate will work closely with internal and external partners and manage a team of professionals in the fields of architecture, engineering, and planning.


Key Responsibilities


  • Responsible for overseeing all university construction projects and ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines
  • Manage project budgets, negotiate agreements, and monitor project progress
  • Serve as the primary contact for project planning and public works oversight
  • Administer budgets to ensure proper allocation of resources
  • Create a motivating work environment, focusing on diversity, sustainability, and team success

Qualifications


Minimum:


  • State of Washington licensed architect
  • At least six years of architectural experience
  • Three years of experience in a supervisory role
  • Strong financial and management background in large-scale projects
  • Excellent communication skills and knowledge of public works procurement

Preferred:


  • Fellow in the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) or equivalent
  • Prior experience as a campus/university architect
  • Experience working within higher education institutions
