Summary


The Sugar Dye Operator is responsible for operating sugar dyeing machinery to produce dyed sugar products according to specified color requirements and quality standards.

This role involves handling large quantities of sugar, preparing dyeing solutions, conducting quality checks, and maintaining accurate production records.

The operator must adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to ensure a safe and efficient production process.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate sugar dyeing machinery according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols. This involves starting up, monitoring, and shutting down equipment as necessary.
  • Handle large quantities of sugar efficiently. This includes dumping sugar into the mixer in precise amounts according to batch requirements.
  • Prepare dyeing solutions and mix them with sugar in the designated mixer. Follow recipes or instructions to ensure proper blending and consistency.
  • Conduct regular quality checks on the dyed sugar to ensure it meets customer specifications and internal quality standards. This involves visually inspecting the color, texture, and overall appearance of the product.
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, including batch logs, quality control checks, and any deviations from standard procedures.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and strict food safety protocols throughout the production process. This includes maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the work area, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and preventing crosscontamination.
  • Identify and troubleshoot any issues that arise during production, such as equipment malfunctions or quality deviations. Communicate any problems to supervisors or maintenance staff as needed.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
  • Operate machine as required to produce a quality product in accordance with company policy.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Team Lead.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Able to discern differences in colors accurately is crucial for this role. You'll need to visually inspect the dyed sugar to ensure it matches the specified color requirements.
  • Ability to work with powdered food dyes and liquid solvents.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Required to frequently lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; bend, kneel and squat.
  • Required to possess vision abilities that include close, distant and peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Able to withstand working in a climate controlled environment around operating machinery and conveyors.
