Job Description and Duties

The False Claims Unit seeks to recover money of which the state has been cheated through fraud andmisrepresentation, by investigating and litigating violations of the California False Claims Act(Government Code section 12650 et seq.). False Claims cases often involve complex litigation inwhich millions of dollars are at stake.

Under the direction of attorneys in the False Claims Unit and supervision by the Supervising Deputy Attorney General, the Senior Legal Analyst will assist attorneys and professional staff in preparing for andparticipating in complex false claims actions including investigations, discovery, trials, hearings,settlement conferences and meetings. These positions entail responsible and varied litigationsupport work including electronic document management and information management projectsincluding, but not limited to, brief banks, trial presentations, event chronologies, time lines, andtranscript projects. The senior legal analyst is responsible for gathering and tracking all evidence anddiscovery, reviewing paper and electronic data and working with the Litigation Support Section toensure proper repository of documents. The senior legal analyst serves as an electronic litigationsupport consultant and trains other section staff on document and information management bestpractices and litigation support software applications. The duties of these positions requireorganizational and analytical ability, effective communication skills, and knowledge of thelitigation process.

Working Conditions

The False Claims Unit supports telecommuting. Telecommuting privileges may be revoked for operational needs or changes in office policy. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises.
