The Senior Settlement Accountant performs and assists in a variety of daily loan accounting activities for Merrick Bank Corporation (the "Bank") and is a subject matter expert in multiple loan accounting processes with the ability to provide support and assistance to other settlement accounting team members as required.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; reconciliation of complex loan accounting suspense accounts, assists settlement accounting team members with escalated issues, prepares various month-end closing schedules and entries and assists management in accounting process improvements.
The Senior Settlement Accountant must ensure all job duties are completed in compliance with established controls and procedures and with a high degree of accuracy.
Essential Functions:
Reconciles complex lending suspense accounts including researching outstanding items and working with the Bank's servicing team to make the necessary adjustments to the loan accounts to clear the outstanding items.
Communicates with the appropriate parties (both internal and external) to ensure that suspense items are cleared in a timely manner and to ensure compliance with established Bank timelines, policies and procedures.
Assists settlement accounting team members with escalated items as assigned per management.Completes daily settlement processes and entries timely and accurately including preparation of the daily settlement interface process and the identification of any processing issues.
Assists in balancing or determining differences related to daily settlement entries in their own processes or to assist others as assigned by management.
Completes the daily cash process in coordination with the general ledger accounting team.Ensures all wires related to settlement are sent accurately and timely.
Assists management with special projects and compiles data for audit requests.
Prepares various month-end closing schedules and entries.
Assists management to improve and automate various daily processes.
Creates and maintains various accounting and process procedures.
Compliance with Laws & Regulations:
Responsible for complying with all of the Bank's internal control policies and procedures.
Responsible for understanding and complying with all laws and regulations to which the Bank is subject.
Responsible for communicating problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, noncompliance with laws and regulations, policy violations, or illegal acts.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in finance-related studies, or equivalent broad experience is required, four (4) years of related and equivalent experience accepted in lieu of education requirement.
Summary of Qualifications:
Experience with, and demonstrated skill at, the following computer applications:
Spreadsheet (Excel preferred), and E-mail.
Knowledge of Fiserv Omaha, Fiserv Premier, Latitude Recovery and Oracle General Ledger preferred.
Ability to identify and solve practical problems with little or no supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; presents ideas in a clear, concise, understandable and organized manner.
Ability to make suggestions based on experience to improve the daily settlement process and suspense reconciliation process.
Knowledge of Bank's settlement functions and processes. Expert knowledge in one or more processes.
Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
Ability to maintain focus and positive attitude under pressure.
