Corporate Health and Safety Manager

Job Type Full-time Description **FLSA STATUS: Exempt**

**Role Overview:** A Corporate Health and Safety Managers primary role is to develop and implement safety processes and procedures that are consistent with company policies and project-specific safety objectives. This role is responsible for directing and providing health and safety program oversight, oversees development and implementation of safety practices, conducting audits for health and safety compliance, ensures compliance with corporate, OSHA, and client safety requirements, and conducting root-cause analysis of health and safety incidents. The Corporate Health and Safety Manager will monitor and document the effectiveness of safety control measures used throughout the company. The position will manage the development of site specific health and safety plans for project work.

Provide health and safety policy recommendations and data to the management team.

Serve as the corporate health and safety subject matter expert with clients, regulators, and SynTerra team members working on projects or developing proposal responses.

Manage health and safety resources and related budget.

Serve as the primary contact on health and safety related issues.

Responsible for establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with SynTerra clients and subcontractors.

Provide training and access to training to comply with OSHA, MSHA, client, and SynTerra requirements

Work as the internal incident manager, ensuring that safety emergencies and injuries are properly managed.

Communicate SynTerra H&S policy, procedures, and requirements to SynTerra personnel, including new employee orientation and monthly training.

Communicate with clients and client representatives regarding client H&S requirements (Written programs, PPE, training, records, insurance, site access, etc.) and SynTerra H&S policies and procedures

Assist in the preparation of new project proposals as they relate to corporate health and safety requirements and objectives.

Reviews all contract documents related to ongoing or proposed work for safety related issues.

Review subcontractor safety programs; ensure that subcontractor programs are compliant with corporate, OSHA, and client safety regulations.

Prepare and regularly update written company H&S plans and procedures.

Regularly review and maintain H&S records and other required information on third-party websites that track SynTerra H&S performance.

Prepare and provide reports to clients and regulatory agencies regarding SynTerra safety performance including, but not limited to: MSHA Quarterly Mine Report and ISNetworld Site Tracker.

Maintain training records to comply with OSHA, MSHA and client requirements.

Monitor OSHA and client PPE requirements , purchase and provide appropriate PPE to SynTerra personnel, purchase and provide high-visibility garments with SynTerra logo (shirts, vests, coats) to SynTerra personnel, and purchase or review and approve PPE requirements and purchases for project-specific requirements.

Conduct safety audits. Audits will include a brief summary report noting any deviations from the prepared safety plans and corrective actions that may be necessary to promote the health and safety of workers and the public.

Effectively communicate with a variety of internal and external clients.

Comply with all current policies and procedures of SynTerra.

Comply with all Health and Safety training in order to maintain a safe working environment.

Full-Time employee: Available to work 40 hours per week, plus additional hours as needed to meet project deadlines.

The tasks associated with H&S leadership are not a full time position. This position will provide support in other areas of the consulting firm determined by candidates additional skillsets.

We are looking for an experienced engineer or environmental scientist with an environmental consulting background.

The H&S Manager will utilize other company personnel to assist with the administrative tasks associated with this position.

The H&S manager is not expected to deliver all the associated H&S training; the successful candidate will possess the ability to delegate some tasks to others.

Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or his/her designee.

Requirements **Minimum Skills/Experience Required:**

Bachelors degree in sciences related field required. Advanced degree required.

Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in corporate health and safety including current understanding of OSHA and MSHA regulations.

Preferred experience in environmental consulting industry (Phase 1, Industrial Hygiene, etc.).

Advanced to expert level proficiency in Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, Adobe, and Access.

Knowledge and general understanding of ERP and industry level environmental safety data systems.

Strong written and oral communication skills for all levels of technical understanding.

Attentive to detail, accurate and well organized.

**Physical Demands/Working Environment:**

The Corporate Health and Safety Manager must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail.

The Corporate Health and Safety Managers work environment involves work primarily indoors with occasional need to work in an outdoor setting. Work environments range from climate controlled office space to areas where dust, noise, and outdoor weather conditions may be present.

May sit or stand for several hours at a time and climb inclines (terrains, ladders, etc.).

The Corporate Health and Safety Manager must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Travel throughout SynTerra client service area is required as needed.

**While we'd prefer the candidate to be located at the Greenville office, we would consider any location where we have a local office.**
