Job Title:
McKinney - Vento Homeless Education Liaison (Part-Time)

Job Goal:
To plan, organize, and implement programs in assigned area.

Reports to:
Director of Federal Programs

Qualifications:

  • Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Must possess the ability to interpret Homeless Law
  • Must possess excellent assessment, case management interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interprets Federal and State laws relating to Homeless Students and ensures the delivery of mandated services. Keeps informed of and complies with federal and state laws. Keeps informed of new state and local board policies affecting area(s) of responsibility.
  • Serves as the District Liaison with the State Department of Education
  • Serves as the District Contact and Liaison for Foster Connections Support
  • Acts as a resource to school administrators, guidance counselors, teachers, and health services personnel regarding family support activities for homeless children and youth.
  • Collaborates with school staff to develop interventions for students identified as homeless and develop individualized service plans
  • Provide families with information related to the needs of their child and act as a resource to parents/guardians by providing family support activities and communicating available services.
  • Implements case management services, monitor student/family progress and status; and make referrals to other professional staff members and community agencies as needed.
  • Establishes a Homeless Advisory Committee comprised of school, district, and community agency representatives who will provide services, information, support, and advisement for the district program.
  • Evaluate the existing program as an ongoing responsibility and recommend changes as needed in writing the District Homeless Grant.
  • Monitors the electronic data management Portal for accuracy and timeliness of Homeless data.
  • Keeps current with new ideas and exemplary practices by attending professional development activities, as approved, at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Complies and maintains necessary written records and reports ensuring confidentiality of students and their families.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts training for school staff on school laws as they relate to the homeless student population.
  • Provides Districtwide training programs for personnel in the area(s) of responsibility, (Homeless Liaisons).
  • Provide appropriate orientation for teachers and staff members.
  • Serves as a resource person for District staff, parents, and community.
  • Models the nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Plans and accomplishes personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
  • Maintain a wellstocked distribution center with materials, supplies, clothing/uniforms, and health and beauty aids for Homeless students.
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned or required.

Terms of Employment:
Part-Time Position, Salary, and Work Year to be established by the board. Salary in adherence and compliance with approved salary schedule.

Evaluation:

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
