Job Description

Overall Description
The UAB Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery is recruiting a pediatric psychologist for a clinical and research faculty position. The Pediatric Psychologist's effort will be evenly split between clinical and research activities.

Evidence-based clinical services will be provided on an inpatient and outpatient basis to patients and families receiving treatment at Children's of Alabama.

Children's of Alabama was proud to tie for the #1 best children's hospital in the Southeast according to the U.S.

News & World Report Best Children's Hospitals Survey.

In collaboration with Dr.

Rocque, the pediatric psychologist will develop a systematic research plan examining the psychosocial risk, resiliency, and quality of life in youth diagnosed with hydrocephalus and their families.

Using a biopsychosocial model of care the evidence-based interventions will be designed to address identified risk and resiliency factors. For the first 3 years the pediatric psychologist will receive 50% effort protected for research activities.

It is expected that by the end of 3 years, the faculty member will have obtained funding to support research efforts (KL2, K23, or similar career development award or other funding).

UAB has mentorship available for career development awards.

REPRESENTATIVE CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary clinical responsibility is to provide a continuum of clinical services on an inpatient and outpatient basis to patients and families served by the UAB Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Children's of Alabama Hospital.

This will include multidisciplinary collaboration with physicians, nursing and other providers to deliver care that is appropriate to the patient's medical status.

As such, the psychologist will be integrated into medical teams and expected to effectively communicate and coordinate patient care with each team and participate in medical and psychosocial care coordination meetings as necessary.

Psychologist will be part of collaborative research with Dr.

Rocque and other faculty members including projects examining quality of life in youth with hydrocephalus as well as the opportunity to examine data collected via clinical services and write these data up for publication.

Perform direct patient care of pediatric patients within the scope of the psychology license, education and experience. Consistently contributes toward the advancement of clinical patient care and improved outcomes. Interview and assess patients to determine presence of condition/disease and to establish preventive behavioral and mental health practices. Determine nature and extent of impairment, prescribe and administer appropriate evidence-based behavioral or mental health interventions or assessments.

Participates in and/or leads ongoing educational activities for continued enhancement of clinical expertise.

Effective Communication
Provide for the exchange of appropriate patient care and clinical information when patients are admitted, referred, transferred or discharged.

Provide data which will contribute to the assessment of a patient's needs, the organization's capability to provide care or treatment and the appropriate level of care.

Training and Education
Participates in the training and education of medical students, residents, fellows, faculty, community Psychologists and/or staff, when possible. Attends clinical rounds, medical lectures, grand rounds, and other conferences, as assigned.

Policy Compliance

Maintains good standing in the UAB Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Children's of Alabama Hospital by compliance to licensure and credentialing criteria.

Comply with policies and procedures protecting patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by the UAB Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Children's of Alabama Hospital mission and applicable laws and regulations.

Follow UAB Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Children's of Alabama Hospital established code of ethical behavior in decisions and actions regarding marketing, admission, transfer, discharge and billing.
