A school district in Winston Salem, NC is actively seeking a Pre-K-12 Sign Language Interpreter to join the team. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will be responsible for facilitating communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and others to support their academic and social development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpreting services for students in Pre-K through 12th grade in various educational settings
  • Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, school meetings, and extracurricular activities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students who require interpreting services
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to support the needs of deaf or hard-of-hearing students
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
  • Provide support and resources to students to help them develop their sign language skills
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities to stay current with best practices in sign language interpreting

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting or a related field
  • National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or other relevant certification preferred
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of deaf culture
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in an educational setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, students, and families
