Custodian

Custodian - 1st Shift

Scheduled Hours: 6:00am-2:30pm, Monday through Friday

Spruce has a full time opportunity for custodian to keep its buildings and grounds clean and safe for its employees. This person will use cleaning chemicals to maintain equipment and other supplies while dusting, mopping, cleaning restrooms, and emptying trash/cardboard.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for ensuring that all facilities are neat, clean, and clear from clutter and safe.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Daily responsibilities include:

1. Clean/sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures
2. Clean/dust/wipe down furniture; sweep, mop or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; empty and clean ash tray and cigarette urns; replace light bulbs; and refill restroom dispensers.
3. Assist with set up of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences and events
4. Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets.
5. Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, exactors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers, brooms, mops, squeegees for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, windows, etc.
6. Wash walls and equipment; use ladders in work assignments as necessary
7. Secure buildings and work space when no longer in use, turning off lights, etc.
8. Follow instructions for safe and proper use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
9. Perform cleaning and related activities such as snow removal or debris from sidewalks and stairs in areas within 16 feet of buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment
10. Move furniture equipment, supplies and tools on incidental basis
11. Wash accessible interior and exterior windows, clean blinds, launder cleaning rags and dust mops.
12. Must have physical and mental capabilities in the following: interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, follow directions, comprehension, calculating, reading/writing/speaking in English, evaluating, basic math and measuring, organizing and innovation.
13. Attend to emergencies within facilities when necessary
14. Remain up to date on proper cleaning methods and techniques and products.
15. Handle recycling/cardboard within facility
16. Support and enforce all policies such as OSHA and other health and safety guidelines.
17. Enforce and support all facility and operational policies.
18. Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

Specific Skills Preferred:

1. Ability to work seamlessly and independent in areas where other employees are working, in pleasant and friendly manner
2. Knowledge of industrial equipment such as floor cleaners, small hand tools, and ability to fix small building problems like leaky faucets and faulty light switches is a must.
3. Strength and stamina are required for this position, which requires heavy lifting

Education/Experience Required:

There are no educational requirements; however, the successful candidate must have experience using industrial cleaners and equipment, and basic knowledge of proper cleaning procedures. Ability to communicate, read, and comprehend procedures written and spoken in English necessary.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

• Work may be performed within a manufacturing environment as well as outdoors.
• Must have reliable transportation
• This is a physically demanding job requiring strength and stamina: must have the ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs with ease) and spend most of your time on your feet.
• Facility includes 3 buildings with multiple floors, so must have ability to frequently walk, climb stairs, bend down, reach within arms' length, reach overhead, stoop and bend, including ability to climb ladders.

This position may start as a temp to perm role. Final candidates must be able to successfully pass background check and pre-employment drug screen.
