Pre-K Teacher Assistant (Exceptional Children) at [Company Name]

SALARY:
$17.81 per hour

BENEFITS:
- Full benefits package including paid holidays, sick leave, annual leave, health insurance, and retirement plan.
- Local supplement of 5.5% kicks in the month following completion of the initial year. State longevity bonus after a decade of service.

MINIMUM DEGREE LEVEL:

High School diploma and completion of EDU 119 or equivalent; AA or BA/BS degree or enrollment in a degree program; preferred AA in Early Childhood.


MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
All candidates must be recognized as "Highly Qualified" with 48 college credits or 7 core subject matter credits and passing WorkKeys test scores.

REPORTS TO:
Lead Teacher, Pre-K/Head Start Director, Principal, or Designee.

JOB GOALS:
- Support the teacher in fostering a well-structured, smoothly-operating class environment.


- Assist exceptional education students (individually or in groups) with physical aid and emotional backing to enhance their learning experience.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Aid in teaching and managing students, working with individuals, small groups, or large groups, including:

  • Guide and assist students with tasks or IEPs as directed by the teacher.
  • Support the learning process of material or skills introduced by the teacher. Develop special strategies based on student understanding.
  • Assist in behavior and disciplinary procedures aligned with teacher and program/school regulations. Keep the teacher informed of student or parental issues.

- Communicate and collaborate with regular/special education teachers regarding student matters.

  • Share and respond to parent communications as instructed by the teacher. Maintain student information confidentiality.
  • Assist students with daily needs like dressing, moving, using facilities, etc.
  • Ensure classroom health and safety standards are met. Daily inspection of the playground for safety concerns.
  • Ready to step in as a sub when required. Act as the primary support for any substitute teacher in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Fulfill morning/afternoon Extended Care obligations as per schedule.
  • Uphold ethical behavior and student information confidentiality akin to licensed teachers. Maintain professionalism, avoid gossip, and dress appropriately.
  • Perform additional tasks delegated by teacher or supervisor.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be capable of physically performing operational functions like stooping, kneeling, walking, etc. Ability to lift at least 20 pounds.



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Ten-month contract annually; work schedule determined by the Director of Pre-K/Head Start. Salary as per the District's schedule.

EVALUATION:
Evaluated according to the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
