Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking to hire a Diagnostic Laboratories Team Leader (DLTL), whom will report to the Manager of the diagnostic Core and Chemistry Laboratories, and whom will supervise efficient integration and management of the team and operations to properly provide laboratory services. The DLTL defines performance standards and manages operations to support consistent outcomes which meet or exceed quality standards. The DLTL plans, coordinates, and supervises the activities of personnel engaged in testing and implements new technology. In support of the MLS programs, the DLTL enables staff to serve as instructors for the primary training of the MLS students. **TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:**

*LEADERSHIP - (NOVICE):*- Sets the example in challenging and difficult situations. Can demonstrate different leadership styles, such as supportive and authoritative, as individuals and situations require it. Communicates team and unit goals clearly and effectively. Is receptive to ideas and suggestions from team members. Shows leadership and initiative in situations where supervision is not present or required.

*OPERATIONS PLANNING - (NOVICE):*- Demonstrates ability to realistically anticipate resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Appropriately matches equipment and capital resources to task demands. Achieves results within budget. Competently handles multiple assignments simultaneously. Reshapes project during life-cycle evolution, if needed. Demonstrates ability to break down work into manageable and measurable units. Accepts changes to assignments with minimal disruption and loss of productivity. Able to absorb changes to major assignments while maintaining a high level of performance. *LABORATORY PRACTICES (INTERMEDIATE):*- Demonstrates mastery of laboratory practices in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering products and services using laboratory practices without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job. * Organizational Impact: Plans and sets day to day objectives for the team that have a direct effect on the results of the department or area that the job is in.

National MLS (or categorical equivalent) Certification with eligibility to obtain the state of Tennessee Medical Laboratory Supervisor license or be eligible to obtain the state license within 6 months of start date. Allowed 6 months to obtain State of Tennessee Supervisor license. Considered in training prior to license approval. 5 years work experience in the diagnostic laboratories.
