JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant Registered (MA-R) primary function is to support the healthcare team to provide patient care.

The scope of the MA-R is based on training, competency, and endorsement by a designated healthcare practitioner, per Washington state regulations.

This position is responsible for acting on tasks delegated per endorsement.

This positions primary role is to support the team with clerical, administrative, and team support duties facilitating an organized and smooth flow for the day.

The secondary role is to assist with patient care as time allows.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Clerical, Administrative and Team Support Duties
a. Greet patients and visitors
b. Answering, screening, and routing incoming calls.
c. Referring clinical inquiries to the RNs or providers.
d. Make appointments in conformance with protocols, procedures and schedules.
e. Monitor the medical staff buckets responds appropriately to the documents in the bucket
f. Calls patients to facilitate care and relay results or messages.
g. Prepares and maintains examination and treatment areas. Sorting, storing, and restocking exam/procedure rooms with supplies.

Ensures the smooth operation of the unit by adhering to policies and procedures and reporting on changes that have to be made.

  • Patient Care

Telephone and in-person screening limited to intake and gathering of information without requiring the exercise of judgment based on clinical knowledge.

b. Maintains medical and immunization records. Obtaining vital signs and medication information, obtaining, and recording patient history.

Prepares patients for and assisting with routine and specialty examinations, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries utilizing no more than local anesthetic.

d. Assists with providing organized patient flow.
e. Works closely with provider and nursing staff to help facilitate rapid response to patient needs.
f. Completes screening and following up on test results as directed by a healthcare practitioner.
g. Prepares patient referrals.
h. Assists provider/nursing staff with patient tracking systems. Enters patients into appropriate recall plans.

May assist with administration of medications including eye drops, topical ointments, and vaccines including combination or multidose vaccines if skills have been validated.

EDUCATION
High School Diploma or equivalent.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE
Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR required or must be able to obtain within first 90 days of employment. Must be eligible for Medical Assistant-Registered Licensure.

EXPERIENCE
One year in clinic setting or other health care facility providing direct patient care preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
