MobilizeGreen seeks a detail-oriented Visual Information Specialist Intern for an 11-week, full-time summer position supporting the Western Headquarters of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Grand Junction, CO. As a Visual Information Specialist intern in this role, you will assist headquarters staff in updating website content about accessible BLM recreation opportunities.

The BLM Headquarters Division of Recreation and Visitor Services (HQ430) lacks a dedicated recreation website or graphic design lead. The BLM website has 1.5 million page views per month with the majority of the page views and searches related to recreation. The intern would dedicate their time toward improving the user experience and user interface for those viewing recreation related BLM web pages and coordinating the collection and publishing of recreation site accessibility information. This work would include assisting the recreation Website Improvement and Accessible Site Data teams to improve public access to updated recreation information available on the and associated websites.


The intern will also provide subject matter expertise for internal and external facing documents to ensure a consistent look and feel and that documents are 508 compliant. The intern will also assist with an ongoing effort to create new design elements, such as recreation icons, for use across multiple computer applications.

Through this position, you will play a crucial role in promoting BLM's recreational opportunities, making them more accessible to the public. You will gain hands-on experience in website development and graphic design while contributing to the mission of the BLM.

The BLM DHA Internship program is a unique opportunity designed for current undergraduate, graduate, or PhD students to launch their natural and cultural resources careers. The intern will receive hands-on learning experience, mentorship, and coaching to complete mission-critical work while developing leadership, critical thinking, and strategic communication skills. This is a developmental program.

Position Duties:

  • Update website content about accessible BLM recreation opportunities.
  • Collaborate with BLM headquarters staff to improve website user experience.
  • Utilize graphic design skills to create engaging web pages.
  • Review existing recreation site information and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop a summary that can be used to outline project continuation.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of web content.
  • Apply basic HTML knowledge to website development tasks.
  • Enhance communication and time-management skills through project coordination.

Eligibility:
To be eligible for the internship, you must:

  • Be a current undergraduate, graduate, or PhD student.
  • Be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Possess basic understanding of MS Excel and website navigation.
  • Have good communication and time-management skills.
  • Have basic familiarity with HTML (a plus).
  • Work well independently and as part of a team.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • An early-career professional with a strong interest in graphic design and website development.
  • A U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based with opportunity for remote work.
  • Office duties involve computer-based tasks, including web development and data management.
