JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Manager for Respiratory Services the Respiratory Care Intern is responsible for maintaining adequate inventory levels for all equipment and supplies used by the department. This job will include removing small oxygen and air compressed cylinders and resupplying full tanks at the appropriate par levels in designated areas throughout the hospital.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

High School Diploma

Current Respiratory Student of a Respiratory Program is required, or a graduate of a respiratory therapy program.

EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of compressed gas cylinders.

Knowledge of respiratory equipment including mechanical ventilators.

Knowledge or experience with ventilation testing prior to patient use

PREREQUISITE SKILLS
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Manual dexterity to handle medical instrumentation.
  • The ability to move and/or lift large objects, and Medium weight loads frequently up to 50 lbs.
LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

Current CPR certification at the BLS-C (Healthcare Provider) level with American Heart Association

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL
  • Inventories and restocks respiratory equipment and Respiratory supply charts throughout the hospital.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly equipment room
  • Updates the location of equipment on the white board and the location and number of standby equipment for any disaster
  • Collects equipment from dirty equipment areas for processing.
  • Retrieves processed equipment for redistribution.
  • Retrieves empty medical gas tanks and restocks within the established par level to all areas in the hospital
