JOB PURPOSE:

Responsible for assisting with the implementation of the admissions strategy for the school of law. Provides and distributes information regarding official law school admissions procedures; manages admissions operations including office systems and managing office technology, analyzing statistical data; conducts admission outreach activities; and generates recruitment and other reports as requested.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:

Assists with managing volunteers, student workers and student ambassadors.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Internal contacts include administrative staff, faculty, and students. External contacts include prospective students, University officials, and any other law affiliated institutions and agencies.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Screens applications for admission to the Law School. Analyzes applicant pool. Troubleshoots application problems.
  • Processes applications and fees for the JD, LLM and summer study abroad programs and transmits these fees to the Bursar's office.
  • Provides data, applications, and other materials necessary for the review of applicants to the Associate Dean, the Director of Admissions, and the Admissions Committee, and assists with compliance with University and ABA procedures and requirements.
  • Serve as recruiter for law school and graduate fairs (this will include local, regional, and national travel)
  • Hosts online and in person meetings with students evaluating the school of law. Plan recruitment related events on behalf of the Admissions Office.
  • Provides in-depth counseling to admitted students, wait-listed and denied applicants.
  • Manages the day-to-day business and operational functions of the office to include managing the workflow and systems of the office, reviewing the Admissions budget, and securing needed equipment and supplies, and recommending office technology updates, as necessary.
  • Responds to requests for information from prospective applicants, students, faculty and the public and provides written inquiries.
  • Assist with the development of a social media plan and manage law admissions social media channels to help build a talented and diverse student body.
  • Assists with statistical research for completion of admission, annual and other reports as requested or needed.
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Associate Dean and Director of Admissions as needed.
CORE COMPETENCIES:

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, methodologies, and techniques involved in management of admissions processes in a law school.

Excellent communications skills with competence in both oral and written English.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise a high degree of accuracy, diplomacy, and confidentiality.

Knowledge of personal computers and accompanying word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

Ability to exercise sound judgment in handling competing demands.

Ability to collaborate cooperatively with individuals and organizations both internal and external to the University, including students from various backgrounds.

Ability to provide counseling and advisement to students in an expeditious and courteous manner.

Ability to interact with others using judgment and decorum and to relate effectively with the law school faculty and legal community.

Ability to interpret and apply policies, rules, and regulations accurately and to exercise independent judgment consistent with University policies and other governing regulations.

Ability to manage tasks independently and to assist in other areas as necessary.

Willingness to contribute to a team-oriented environment, multi-task, and plan for and seamlessly integrate constantly shifting priorities to support the goals of the admissions office.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years' experience in admissions or six years of equivalent education and- experience in admissions, recruitment and/or administration (JD preferred).
  • Strong skills in the areas of organization, data analysis, social media technology, public speaking, interpersonal relations, and MS Office suite.
  • Knowledge of Unite, Slate, and Colleague software is a strong plus.
  • Candidates must have the ability to work some evenings/weekends, and travel as needed.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
