Job Summary: Works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy focusing on bariatric and weight loss that are integrated and compatible with the patients' medical program goals and objectives.
Primary Duties:
  • Assesses patient nutrition requirements using appropriate physiological data and guidelines.
  • Develops nutrition care plans for bariatric and weight loss patients based on medical nutrition therapy and modifies plan as necessary.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare team members to coordinate medical nutrition interventions with other aspects of medical care.
  • Educates and counsels patients and caregivers in one-on-one and group settings. Adjusts teaching techniques and materials to match participant needs.
  • Prepares patients for weight loss surgery following protocols.
  • Assists in formulating any needed weight loss protocols for the program.
  • Supports and provides clinical recommendations for complications, including in-patient care.
  • Completes professional documentation of all medical nutrition therapy encounters.
  • Participates in updating bariatric nutrition education materials and treatment protocols.
  • Creates bariatric digital content for various platforms and contributes to patient education materials.
  • Participates in media relations for the program.
  • Hosts or presents at monthly bariatric support group meetings.
  • Collaborates with the medical team on patient care and outcomes.
  • Functions as the bariatric nutrition expert within the clinical team and the organization.
  • Works as an inpatient dietitian when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

License, Certification, Education, or Experience:

REQUIRED:
  • Bachelors or advanced degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition.
  • 2 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian focusing on bariatric and weight loss nutrition support.
  • Must be a Registered Dietitian with current certification as a Dietitian.
  • Clinical expertise in bariatric nutrition assessment and care plans.
  • Teaching skills adaptable to patient needs.
  • Knowledge of bariatric surgeries and associated nutrient deficiencies.
  • Expertise in developing digital content for various platforms and social media.
  • Strong public speaking and engagement skills.
  • Excellent prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate patients to adopt new behaviors.
  • Board Certification in Obesity Management.
  • Member of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
DESIRED:
  • Knowledge and experience in diabetes education.
  • Certified Diabetes Educator.
  • 2 years of experience working as a diabetes educator.
