Job Summary:

The shipping clerk is responsible for verifying records on outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by recording shipment data into shipping software.

Essential Functions:
  1. Processes orders and determines shipping method based on customer's preferred shipping system (e.g. USPS, UPS WorldShip, FEDEX Ship, etc.).
  2. Performs all computer functions necessary to track various aspects of goods.
  3. Correctly labels all private label boxes and daily order packages.
  4. Reads work orders to determine any special customer requirements.
  5. Coordinates orders from different departments to ship together.
  6. Notifies supervisor of missing material/order problems, with daily/foreign orders.
  7. Forecasts ahead to accommodate scheduled orders and daily orders.
  8. Keeps shipping area clean and tidy on a daily basis.
Additional Responsibilities:

Perform additional duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, & Capabilities:
  1. Knowledge of principles and methods of moving goods by air, sea, or road, including but not limited to palletizing, UPS WorldShip, and FedEx Ship Manager.
  2. Knowledge of materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective distribution of goods.
  3. Knowledge of basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook and Shipping software.
  4. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  5. Strong communication skills and desire to work with other team members.
  6. Ability to manage one's own time.
  7. Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing dynamics.
  8. Ability to work a consistent schedule.
  9. Ability to move freight, stock, or other materials weighing up to 50 lbs. to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, by hand or using trucks, tractors, or other equipment.
  10. Ability to stand for sustained periods of time.
Physical Requirements:
  1. Standing for sustained periods of time.
  2. Making substantial movements/motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  3. Frequently lifting and/or moving boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
  4. Occasionally lifting and/or moving boxes weighing up to 125 lbs.
Work Environment:
  1. Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
  2. Noise level is usually moderate to high.
Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent
