Responsibilities:

  • Learn from your surroundings and apply efficient machining practices to reduce project time.
  • Create accurate, high-quality mold components using Partner CNC machines when available.
  • Maintain machine accuracy and good working condition.
  • Regularly check work for accuracy during and after machining.
  • Keep detailed notes on new machining and mold-building techniques.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow ISO Policies, Procedures, Work Instructions, and related quality management system documentation.

Reports to: Shift Foreman
Supervisors Supervisor: Plant Superintendent

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Strong background in Mathematics, mechanical aptitude, and print visualization skills.
  • Proficient in Computer and English.
  • Good work ethic, goal-oriented, clean, and organized.

Job Elements:

  • Manual dexterity, lifting, pushing, and pulling of 50 pounds, standing for extended periods.

Secondary Responsibilities:

ISO Compliance:

  • Ensure you have line-up sheets from your Leadman.
  • Complete inspection reports on all work.
  • Follow conforming and non-conforming material work instructions.
  • Use the latest revision of all documents.

Work Ethic:

  • Apply your best effort to support yourself, co-workers, and the company.
  • Perform tasks safely without endangering yourself or others.

Productivity:

  • Set and strive to achieve daily goals.
  • Prepare workpieces, review engineering prints, and determine setup for each project.
  • Optimize run time using speeds and feeds charts.
  • Coordinate with the Foreman for complex programming and special tooling needs.
  • Plan with the Leadman to accomplish project goals.
  • Assist co-workers and find solutions to job challenges.

Machining Procedures:

  • Prioritize daily tasks and focus on main objectives.
  • Inspect workpieces for warp after roughing and before finishing.
  • Ensure proper grind stock and fit of cavity and slide pockets.
  • Inspect, deburr, and complete all machined items.

Quality Control:

  • Collaborate with the opposite shift apprentice to align goals and priorities.
  • Monitor the quantity and quality of your work.
  • Use mold and cavity process sheets to track completeness.
  • Verify the accuracy of the first machined item before continuing.

Inventory:

  • Requisition new cutters when needed, with approval from the Foreman or Shift Supervisor.

Documentation:

  • Use the latest revision of all documents.
  • Keep notes legible, organized, and dated with the shop order.

Prints:

  • Mark changes on primary prints and return all customer prints clean and organized to the foremans office.

Cleanliness:

  • Keep machines and floors clean and organized.
  • Clean up coolant spills immediately.
  • Empty chip bins regularly.
  • Use vacuums for carbon and avoid using air to clean carbon.
