A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A SECURITY ANALYST

The Security Analyst maintains computing environment by identifying security requirements; installing upgrades; monitoring security applications, and ensuring security standards are met. Sets up, configures, and supports internal and/or external security services. Develops and maintains systems, applications, security, and network configurations. Troubleshoots security alerts and incidents, and helps in creating and maintaining a disaster recovery plan. Recommends upgrades, patches, practices, and new assets as appropriate. Provides technical support and assistance to users.

Security Analyst Job Duties:

  • Proficiently utilizes advanced security tools such as Network Access Control (NAC), Firewall, Antivirus, Malware detection, Intrusion Prevention Systems, and other security tools to identify network threats, prevent them if possible, and effectively remediate them.
  • Maintains one hundred percent compliance of the installation and updating of end-user security products across the organization. Signs of on said compliance of all workstations prior to deployment.
  • Responsible for the planning, installation, and updating of select administrative security tools, including application patches and firmware updates.
  • Collaborates and makes recommendations on configurations changes, products, and services that assist the organization in meeting security best practices, and security audit requirements. Also ensure that the requirements of NCUA examinations are met and/or exceeded, and is able to provide evidence to support assertions.
  • Researches viability of end-user requests for changes to security restrictions related to incoming and outgoing web traffic, email, and application. Whitelists objects of requests where systems integrity and data confidentiality can be reasonably determined.
  • Monitors security logs and researches anomalies. Creates and maintains incident response forms for each occurrence.
  • Creates and maintains documentation and checklists regarding all assigned duties.
  • Provides general end user support when required.
  • Assists in annual budgetary planning by pinpointing possible solutions to meet security requirements.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, attending security-related conferences, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Protects organization's value by actively keeping information confidential.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Takes complete ownership of all facets related to assigned duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to possession of a bachelor's degree in computer related science; such education should be at a level which demonstrates the ability to perform duties comparable to those listed herein. Possession of security-based certification related to security appliances is preferred.

Training and Experience

Experience in providing administrative services regarding network access control and identity services platform is highly desired; experience in administering a variety of security appliances is preferred; experience with network monitoring and traffic analysis is also a plus. GIAC certifications (GCIH, GPEN, GCIA, GNFA, others) also a plus.

Knowledge of:

Working security-based knowledge of local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), Internet, e-mail systems, telecommunications and data communications, standard operating systems, software packages, software utilities; proper records maintenance and storage for local and distributed environments.

Skill and Ability to:

Plan, design, and maintain security methodologies; provide technical support to users; administer day-to-day security operation of networks and servers; implement security maintenance and management procedures; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; explain technical concepts in non-technical terms to clients and staff; read, interpret and apply technical instructions; keep current by reading, interpreting, and applying information on technological changes and updates; prepare clear and concise written communications; research technical manuals and guides to respond to user questions; prioritize requests, organize, schedule, and coordinate a variety of activities and projects; ability to learn new software and hardware packages; adapt to changes in technology; work effectively with little supervision and as a strong team member; establish and maintain positive cooperative working relationships with all those contacted during the course of work.

Other Requirements:

Possession of a valid Utah driver's license; ability and willingness to travel on work assignments; willingness to work additional hours during the week and/or weekend, if required. This position will be in office with a hybrid remote work schedule possible after the training period.
