Permian Basin Overview
ConocoPhillips and its legacy companies have a rich history in the Permian Basin, operating for nearly a century. Spanning New Mexico and Texas, we have traditional holdings in the Northwest Shelf and Central Basin Platform, along with an unconventional presence in the Delaware Basin. In 2021, the Permian Basin experienced significant growth with the acquisition of Concho Resources Inc. in January and the inclusion of Shell's Permian acreage in December. By the end of the year, the company possessed approximately 1.5 million net acres in the region.
Net production for the Permian in 2022 reached 461 MBOED.
Description
If chosen for the Automation Specialist role, you will play a vital part in providing crucial day-to-day troubleshooting and support for SCADA field hardware, communications, and related software to the Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) department. Your responsibilities will involve close collaboration with vendors, contractors, and operations field staff to directly support all aspects of field SCADA equipment.
This is a Safety Sensitive position.
Responsibilities may include:
- Adhere to all relevant DOT and OSHA regulations, NEC/NFPA requirements, and safety protocols
- Prioritize safety, environmental conservation, and regulatory adherence, actively engaging in Safety Action Plans
- Follow company energy isolation procedures (LOTO)
- Conduct installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automation equipment
- Utilize expertise in the installation, calibration, maintenance, and repairs of instrument, communication, and electrical equipment
- Perform planned maintenance checks, calibration, and submit reports promptly
- Handle PLC installation, troubleshooting, and programming
- Manage and respond to SAP notifications and process work orders
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities
- Reduce downtime and unsafe conditions through preventative and predictive maintenance
- Keep technical and administrative records up to date, including prints and project reports
- Initiate Management of Change requests for equipment, instrumentation, and program modifications
- Assist supervisors in adjusting technology and budget requirements
- Promote collaboration across the designated area of responsibility
- Legally authorized to work full-time in the United States for a different employer
- Valid driver's License
- Minimum 5 years of relevant automation work experience
- Intermediate proficiency in PID valve tuning
- Intermediate proficiency in PLC programming and multiple programming languages
- Intermediate proficiency in relevant instrumentation installation, setup, and calibration
- Ability to read and understand drawings (e.g., P&ID's, C&E's)
- Willingness to perform tasks such as climbing ladders, moving items up to 50 pounds, working in various weather conditions, and being on-call for overtime
- Associate degree or Trade Certificate in Instrumentation, Electronics Technology
- Experience with communication equipment (Cell Modems, Radios, Network Switches, etc...)
- Experience with Allen Bradley, Automation Direct, ABB, SCADAPack, Redlion, ROC systems
- Demonstrates accountability and commitment by following through on obligations and advocating for integrity
- Attains positive outcomes through realistic planning and goal achievement
- Develops effective solutions based on available information and makes timely, ethical decisions
