ETHS FOUNDATION:
The ETHS Foundation was created more than 15 years ago as a 501(c)3 organization in order to

raise and distribute funds to Evanston Township High School. In an era of tax caps and limited

funds for capital improvements, the Foundation was created in order to complement, enhance,

and enrich beyond the means of conventional public funding, opportunities that further the

educational mission of Evanston Township High School.

The Foundation has grown from one to two limited projects a year with several hundred

thousand dollars in annual support to multimillion-dollar support of multiple areas at ETHS.

These areas have expanded to include programmatic support as well as physical spaces.

Throughout the past 15 years, the Foundation has been able to provide close to $15,000,000 of

financial support directly to these projects.

The growth of the Foundation, the fund raising capacity of the Foundation, and the needs of

ETHS present the Foundation with an unique opportunity to raise its impact to the next level.

PURPOSE STATEMENT/

PRIMARY POSITION FUNCTION:
The CAO serves as the chief executive of the ETHS Foundation and is responsible for the

comprehensive operations and management of the Foundation. The job includes strategic

planning, information management, and fiscal reporting while implementing fundraising

activities, which includes all aspects of implementing multimillion dollar capital campaigns. The

CAO reports directly to the Superintendent and indirectly to the ETHS Educational Foundation

Board of Directors. The CAO will meet regularly with the Superintendent of District 202.

The CAO manages the activities and operations of the ETHS Foundation including the overall

fundraising efforts for the Foundation. Other activities include developing philanthropic and

fundraising strategies to expand the robust fundraising program for the Foundation to support

capital funding for the school. The CAO assists in the solicitation of leadership, major, and

principal gift prospects for the Foundation and supports the team in preparation for prospect

meetings, cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation.

It should be noted that while the CAO is an employee of District 202, the Foundation's Board has

a duty to monitor the performance of the Foundation's CAO and as such will be consulted in the

setting of specific performance expectations with respect to the Foundation and the evaluation of

the CAOs performance in meeting those expectations. Also, the CAO will be responsible for

complete transparency to the ETHS Foundation Board including the delivery of appropriate

reports and information.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Development Program:
Plans, directs, and implements a comprehensive development program

that generates donations from individuals, foundations, local businesses and corporations.

The

CAO:

  • Supervises the Foundation and Alumni Association staff.
  • Drafts, with the Foundation Board of Directors, and manages a 5-year strategic plan to grow
annual and capital revenue for the Foundation

  • Writes proposals and secures funding from individual, corporate and foundation donors.
  • Leads strategies and research to identify, prioritize, cultivate, solicit, recognize, and steward
all donors and prospects. With the assistance and in coordination with the Major Gifts

Officer, assigns portfolios to all staff of individuals, foundations, corporations, etc., for this

purpose.

  • Develops and maintains, with the assistance of the Major Gift Officer, a portfolio of internal
and external partnerships for the growth and development of the Foundation.

  • Updates and maintains fundraising policies and procedures for approval by Foundation
Board as well as the District 202 Board.

  • Develops, markets, and implements planned giving, endowment, and investment programs to
ensure the Foundations long-term financial health. This will include a portfolio of direct

contacts for fund-raising.

  • Works with Foundation staff and Board to plan fundraising, donor recognitions, and
cultivation events.

  • Assists nominating committee chair on Board development, and produces and provides all
materials for prospective Board members and new member orientation.

  • Works with other Committees of the Board, including gifts committee, and the Major Gifts
Officer, to fulfill mission and goals.

  • Monitors grant requests from various departments throughout the district to avoid conflicts in
grant requests. Coordinates grant activities with the District Business Office.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Advancement Communications:
Works with District staff, consultants, and Foundation staff to

ensure strong advancement communications to strengthen Districts and the Educational

Foundations overall effectiveness.

The

CAO:

  • Works with appropriate and relevant District staff on required follow-up reports to grantors.
  • Represents the District and the Educational Foundation at public events, conferences,
workshops, and media events.

  • Supervises and delegates the Foundations public relations activities in partnership with the
Foundation PR Committee and the Districts Office of Communication and Engagement.

  • Collaborates with the District's Director of Communications and Engagement to ensure that
publications and website include donor-focused content.

  • Supervises and delegates the design and content of Annual Appeal and Annual Reports and
other materials by Director of Communications and other staff.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Alumni Relations:
The

CAO:

  • Works with the Alumni Association to plan and implement projects and events including
development and growth of the Alumni Association Board.

  • Supports Alumni Association staff with class reunions and the Distinguished Alumni
Awards.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Advancement Operations and Management:
Performs general management responsibilities,

including drafting annual business plans, budgets, reports, and evaluation and oversight of gift

tracking systems.

The

CAO:

  • Supervises staff of the Foundation and Alumni Association, including monitoring and
evaluating employees during their probationary period, in accordance with District policies

and procedures.

  • Manages the relationship with the Foundation Board and, in collaboration with the Board
chair, develops and implements Board and Executive Committee meeting agendas.

  • Provides training to staff within or outside of the department in conjunction with other
District training.

  • Leads, coaches, and evaluates performance of direct reports.
  • Supervises staff in preparing all accounting and gift details for the Educational Foundations
annual audit, including working with independent accountants.

  • Prepares the Foundations annual budget, in coordination with the Foundation Board,
outlining revenue and expenses; monitors progress against goals and produces quarterly

reports and disbursements to the District. The budget should be reviewed by the Foundation

Board and District direct supervisor quarterly.

  • Works as an effective and proactive team player. Fosters effective teamwork among the staff.
  • Manages and shares pertinent information with staff, Foundation Board, and District Board.
  • Supervises the investment process involving funds at the Evanston Community Foundation,
bank trust departments, and other institutions, with appropriate staff and in consultation with

the Foundation Treasurer.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.
