TITLE: Group Fitness Cycling Instructor

JOB SUMMARY:


The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for projecting a positive and skilled image of the Old Colony Y through quality fitness programs tailored to meet the community's needs.

Delivering well-prepared, relevant, safe, and efficient programming in a professional manner is crucial, leading to a friendly, convenient, and courteous service.

The Group Fitness Instructor will develop and execute high-level fitness routines that blend cutting-edge trends with established basic choreography to establish a secure, healthy, and constructive environment for all participants.


JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.

Program/Department Responsibilities:


  • Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Nationally recognized Group Fitness certifications
  • Keep program records up to date, including: attendance, questionnaires, evaluations, and accident/incident reports when required
  • Support special promotional activities such as open houses, demonstrations, health and fitness fairs, and verbal announcements
  • Be ready to introduce new routines at the start of a new session/schedule
  • Ensure a safe and healthy exercise environment
  • Arrive early for class to welcome participants, answer queries, and address concerns
  • Dress suitably for teaching exercise classes
  • Arrive well-prepared with music set and routines planned
  • Learn participants' names attending your classes
  • Share educational insights with class attendees
  • Teach classes with enthusiasm and energy
  • Motivate participants to the best of your ability
  • Assist new participants in feeling comfortable
  • Stay informed about safety and fitness trends
  • Arrange for a replacement instructor if unable to teach and document appropriately
  • Exceed member expectations through exceptional service
  • Address member complaints promptly and efficiently
  • Exemplify a fit and healthy lifestyle as a role model
  • Enforce group fitness guidelines regarding age, attire, punctuality, etc.

  • None

3.

Fiscal Responsibility:


  • Maintain precise attendance records and ensure all participants are correctly registered and fully paid where applicable

Facility/Housekeeping Responsibility:


  • Uphold a clean and safe class environment
  • Inspect program equipment weekly and report any necessary repairs or replacements in writing
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the area at all times

5.

Inter-Divisional/Community/Volunteer Responsibility:


  • Take part in interdivisional job assignments as needed
  • Promote a positive work atmosphere by demonstrating job pride, enthusiasm, and teamwork with colleagues
  • Contribute to the annual Strong Kids Campaign

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Minimum):

Minimum 18 years of age

High School Diploma or equivalent

Current CPR, First Aid and Nationally recognized Group Fitness certifications

Attend Principles of YMCA Health and Fitness Workshops when offered

Must be punctual, well-prepared, and ready in advance to teach classes

Must be in outstanding physical condition and able to lift up to 45 pounds using proper technique

Must demonstrate independent thinking and create routines for teaching specific exercise classes

Must maintain confidences and exercise discretion

Must be flexible to meet job requirements, including potential evening, weekend, and holiday hours

Must possess extensive practical experience and a strong interest in the health/wellness or related field, or have completed the YMCA Exercise Instructor I certification course

Must acquire certification through ACE, ACSM, or other recognized nationally accredited organizations within one year of hiring

Must be vigilant and recognize signs of exercise-induced distress

Must have adequate vision for document review; sufficient hearing to engage with the public
