Seattle, Washington, United States Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center Full time

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world's leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world's deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.

At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. These values are grounded in and expressed through the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems. Fred Hutch is in pursuit of becoming an anti-racist organization. We are committed to ensuring that all candidates hired share our commitment to diversity, anti-racism and inclusion.

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is recruiting an Infectious Disease Fellow who seeks clinical training focused on infections in hematopoietic cell transplants as well as other immunosuppressed individuals such as those undergoing treatment for malignancy with chemotherapy or CAR-T cells. Our Cancer Center performs more than 400 Adult BMT and over 100 CAR T transplants per year. The program includes participation in a clinical research/quality improvement project during the fellowship.

Funding is for one-year. Applicants who already completed an ACGME Infectious Disease fellowship will have the opportunity to have attending responsibilities in later months of the experience.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will participate in supervised clinical training on infections in immunocompromised hosts and engage in clinical research with one of our internationally recognized faculty mentors. The individual would participate in our Fred Hutch outpatient infectious disease clinic as well as the immunocompromised host infectious disease inpatient ID consult services. Fred Hutch provides a challenging academic and supportive multi-disciplinary research environment, and the fellow will be able to take full advantage of training, education, and mentorship opportunities offered through Fred Hutch. The training includes attending micro rounds, journal club, infectious disease clinical care conferences and workshops, and opportunities for experience in antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention specific to these populations.

  • We are seeking candidates with a MD, MD/PhD, MD/MPH or equivalent degree who have completed an accredited ACGME Infectious Diseases training program.
  • Candidates should be highly motivated and capable of working independently in a team environment with strong writing, English communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Candidates with the aspiration to pursue a career with expertise in infections among immunocompromised hosts are preferred.
