The Estimator Position at KCI

As an Estimator at our company, you'll work closely with the Director of Preconstruction in preparing project estimates. Your role will involve reviewing project documents and pricing construction projects, including civil, highway/roadway, and self-performed work. Having a thorough understanding of construction methods, costs, and principles is key to success.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and competitive estimates for assigned projects, considering risk factors and construction methods.
  • Review bid documents to determine scope of work and estimate requirements.
  • Calculate labor, material, and equipment costs.
  • Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and pricing.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Assess project site conditions to evaluate construction means/methods and costs.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and manage the buy-out process.
  • Ensure compliance with MBE/WBE/DBE participation requirements.
  • Stay updated on the latest estimating technology and techniques.
  • Represent the company professionally at industry events.
  • Perform any other assigned duties.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an estimating role.
  • Experience in heavy highway/civil and water/wastewater plant estimating.
  • Strong integrity and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, deadline-oriented, and detail-focused.
  • Self-motivated and collaborative team player.
  • Knowledgeable in construction costs and engineering principles.
  • Ability to interpret drawings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with HCSS Heavy Bid a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is typically in an office setting.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds.
  • Limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Quiet noise level in the office.
  • Job duties may require sitting, talking, and hearing, with occasional standing, walking, and manual tasks.
  • Specific vision abilities needed include close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
