Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employee without sponsorship.
Security sensitive; three-year driving record and criminal background checks conducted on selected candidate. The hiring decision is contingent upon the applicant clearing checks.
Applicant required to successfully complete physical abilities testing to lift/carry 78 lbs, pull 125 lbs, lift two-45 lbs of weight up a ladder, kneel work in confined spaces, and other tasks.
PurposeThe purpose of this position is to install, maintain and repair recovered water and condensate pumping systems on the university campus as well as testing and repairing water and condensate meters.
ResponsibilitiesAssist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing, steam and pump, and metering related utility systems.
Clean and maintain all equipment and work areas. Clean shop areas and maintain shop equipment and vehicles. Inform appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies and take appropriate action as needed.
Work in conjunction with trades or craft personnel in support of systems within the power plants, chilling stations, utility tunnels, or other underground utilities.
Perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks incidental to the operation of the mechanical, tunnel, and other plumbing related distribution systems in accordance with established procedures.
Maintain records of equipment repair and inventories. May complete work orders using automated maintenance program systems.Required QualificationsHigh school graduation or GED. Three years of experience in skilled-level repair and maintenance of electrical, industrial, mechanical, or utility distribution equipment.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsDemonstrate good communication skills. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Commercial Driving License (CDL). Ability to work well within a team environment. Ability to operate a backhoe, bobcat, and other shop equipment. Five years of experience in skilled water meter repairs and testing. Five years of experience in skilled pump repairs and maintenance. Experience troubleshooting basic electrical motor control components. Driving RequiredThis job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence.
If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

May be required to perform elevated work. Occasional work from ladders and/or scaffolds.
May be required to operate forklifts, personnel lifts and cranes. Operate other job related equipment.
Participate in on-call program.
Work Shift40 Hour Work Week Schedule; 8 hours per day; Monday-Friday 06:30 AM - 03:00 PM. May work four ten-hour shifts, nine-eighty shifts, or alternate work schedule.
