The Internal Medicine/Internist Medical Research Consultant will provide rapid and reliable case services for initial disability evidence, assessment during the reconsideration process, and give valuable insights on specific medical topics.
Responsibilities- Perform independent reviews of cases provided by SSA.
- Review all medical and non-medical evidence thoroughly.
- Interpret medical evidence in compliance with SSA policies.
- Compose professional, unbiased medical assessments.
- Record findings in agency electronic systems as per SSA procedures.
- Respond promptly to all communications.
- Provide clear and error-free assessments for the disability program.
- Report any suspected fraud detected.
- Participate in presentations and policy development activities.
- Attend meetings and discussions related to disability processes.
- Mentor or train other Consultants as needed.
- Doctorate of Medicine or Osteopathy from an accredited institution.
- Completion of residency and/or fellowship.
- Valid unrestricted medical license in one of the 50 states/territories.
- Minimum one year experience as an Internist.
- Current ICR status with SSA.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent proficiency in English for detailed medical documentation.
- Basic computer skills for research, communication, and document editing.
- Understanding of specialty-specific education, training, and experience.
- Effective interpersonal skills and social sensitivity.
- Clear and concise writing abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with relevant computer software applications.
Physical Demands:
- Employee must sit, talk, and may engage in repeated motions.
- Occasional standing, walking, and lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Close vision capabilities required.
