Description


The Coder applies appropriate ICD10-CM/PCS and CPT 4 code sets to discharged inpatient and outpatient electronic health record documentation for the purpose of indexing, reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal regulations.

The coder abstracts pertinent information from the health record into EPIC system for data retrieval, analysis and claims processing. The coder collaborates with physicians to provide accurate documentation for optimal assignment of codes for reimbursement and outcomes analysis. This position reports to the Coding Supervisor.

Coder:
Primarily responsible for coding the Inpatient, Ambulatory Surgery, Emergency Department, and other outpatient services.

Required Qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training AHIMA approved coding certificate program is required for those who do not have the RHIA, RHIT certification.
  • Upon hire: National Certification from American Academy of Professional Coders Or
  • Upon hire: National Certified Coding Associate
  • American Health Information Management Association Or
  • Upon hire: National Certified Coding Specialist
  • American Health Information Management Association Or
  • Upon hire: National Certified Coding Specialist
  • Physician
  • American Health Information Management Association Or
  • Upon hire: National Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner
  • American Health Information Management Association Or
  • Upon hire: National Certified Health Data Analyst
  • American Health Information Management Association Or
  • Upon hire: National Registered Health Information Administrator
  • American Health Information Management Association Or
  • Upon hire: National Registered Health Information Technician
  • American Health Information Management Association
  • California Fire and Life Safety Card
  • National Organization within 30 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree Health care related field. Or
  • Bachelor's Degree Health care related field.
  • 3 years Coder:
Recent coding experience using ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT4 in an acute care hospital with DRG assignment.

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
