md pediatrician

BASIC NATURE OF POSITION:

Provides medical care for children from birth to early adulthood. Examines pediatric patients and performs or orders diagnostic tests. Diagnoses and treats the injuries and illnesses of babies, children, and teenagers. Prescribes medication and orders appropriate treatments. Advises and collaborates with patients' families to educate them about various conditions and how to minimize their impact on children's health. Records diagnoses and recommendations in charts and records. Works with other healthcare professionals, including FNPs and medical assistants to administer care.

Formal education required:

• Graduation from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada from a foreign medical school recognized by the World Health Organization.
• Completion of three years of training in Pediatrics in an accredited residency program.
• Verification of satisfactory completion of residency training and acceptability as a practitioner of pediatrics, including the achievement of clinical competence and the demonstration of professional and ethical behavior.
• Possession of a valid, unrestricted Michigan state license to practice medicine.
• Candidates must be Board Certified with The American Board of Pediatrics and eligible to obtain licensure in The State of Michigan

Experience/skills/ability required (number of years and type):

• Knowledgeable of Federally Qualified Health Center Operations.
• 5 or more years experience in an ambulatory care setting
• Completion of an accredited residency

• Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to medicine and to community health centers

Specialized training and/or certification/license:

• Federal DEA License
• Valid Michigan Driver's License
• Current CPR/BLS Certificate
• Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) preferred

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Examines infants, adolescents, and young adults to evaluate their growth and development.

Examine and treat injuries and refer little patients and refer to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary (e.. surgeons, ophthalmologists, orthopedists, etc.).

Evaluates patients to diagnose injuries, illnesses, and developmental problems.

Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests, such as lab work and X-rays, to gather medical information and reach a diagnosis.

Prescribes or administers treatments, such as medications, vaccinations, and other therapies.

Gathers and documents patients' medical histories.

Advises patients and their families on proper diet, exercise, and disease prevention and treatment.

Discusses procedures and test results with patients and their families or guardians.

Tracks patients' conditions over time and adjusts treatments as needed.

Documents diagnoses and medical impressions for record-keeping and billing purposes.

Performs rounds at hospitals to check on patients unable to visit office.

Manages FNP and medical assistant staff and delegates tasks appropriately.
