SITE COORDINATOR
Early Childhood and Youth Program Department
Part-time hours/week), Benefitted, Nonexempt

General Statement Of Duties :

Plans, organizes, implements, promotes, and oversees program activities in youth care programs ensures safety of children who are participating in the program, and does related work as required.


Distinguishing Features Of The Class : An employee in this classification is responsible for the day-to-day operations of youth care programs: summer day camps, before and after school programs, and provides support to other district early childhood and youth programs.

The Site Coordinator holds ultimate responsibility for the safety of all the participants and program staff on site.

Work is performed under the supervision of an early childhood and youth programs recreation supervisor who reviews work primarily on the basis of results attained, feedback from participants and parents, and direct observation.

Supervision is not normally a responsibility of positions in this classification.

However, as the lead worker at the site, incumbents may be responsible for overseeing the work of designated staff and volunteers working at the program site.

Monitor participant safety with various measures including attendance taking and frequent head counts. Ensure the safety of all participants and program staff at the site.
Plan, schedule, lead, and submit a site program schedule that includes a variety of recreational, educational, and enrichment activities

Act as lead worker to assigned staff and volunteers, which may include assigning and reviewing work, putting together the schedule of working hours, program specific training, providing input to performance evaluations, assisting in the recruitment of site staff, and providing work assistance as required.

Handle disciplinary problems with children, which includes implementing and monitoring age-appropriate behavior programs and attending/leading parent meetings.

Promote programs, classes, and activities by talking to the school staff, participants, and parents; organize information for and prepare program calendars; organize and maintain informational bulletin boards; attend elementary school orientations, open houses, or other program opportunities.

Support the Springfield Public School's behavior management systems into site and programmatic design.

Maintain and submit all appropriate records related to programs and activities, including daily site logs, incident reports, site observations, and attendance sheets.

Submit weekly numbers to the supervisor on attendance. .
Respond to a variety of questions, concerns, and/or complaints from participants, school staff, parents, and the general public; keeps parents informed regarding child's progress including achievements and challenges
Establish and maintain communication with direct supervisor, site staff, facility front desk, community partners, and families.
Report cases of suspected child abuse to supervisor and Department of Human Services as necessary.
Act as on-site contact to handle transitions, emergency situations, room schedules, and facility concerns related to designated programs.
Attend all staff meetings and training as requested.
Administer First Aid/CPR and respond to emergencies as required.
Organize and deliver necessary supplies to program sites.
Assist in distributing surveys for periodic program evaluations.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in mentoring and coaching peers within a team environment
Experience developing and delivering training related to youth programming.
Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to contribute as a team member in a fast-paced, diverse work environment.
Comprehension of Oregon State child care rules and regulations.
Ability to exhibit problem solving skills.

Knowledge :
Considerable knowledge of behavior management systems, planning and implementing recreational and educational activities, and record keeping.

Skills :
The administration of basic First Aid and CPR. Leading activities for children. Familiarity with basic computer operations and software.

Abilities :
Effective written and verbal communication; work successfully with children, parents, teachers, school administrators, and staff. Work independently with limited onsite supervision calmly, and effectively in emergency situations. Deal effectively with behavioral problems. Assign and review the work of others, maintain records, and prepare accurate reports.

Minimum Experience And Training :

One year of coursework in Education, Recreation, Family and Human Services, or a related associate's degree, and two years of experience in a youth center setting or in an ongoing group setting such as a classroom, day care center, or recreation center, including experience with on-site organizational responsibilities; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above-described duties.


Preferred Experience And Training:


Two years of coursework in Education, Recreation, Family and Human Services, and a related associate or bachelor's degree, and three years of experience in a youth center setting or in an ongoing group setting such as a classroom, day care center, or recreation center, including experience with on-site organizational responsibilities.


Physical Demands Of The Position : While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects.

The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis such as boxes/bags of activity materials, snack foods, etc.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while working with children in activities.

Necessary Special Requirements :

Possession of or ability to obtain current First Aid and CPR certificates; possession of or ability to obtain an Oregon Food Handler Permit; possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license.

Completion of Oregon DHS trainings; Introduction to Childcare Health and Safety (ICCHS) and Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) within first 30 days of employment.

Because this job is considered safety sensitive, a drug screen test and criminal background check will be required prior to employment.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Receive a $200 hiring bonus Applicants are eligible after 90 days of employment and must complete the following:

Attend orientation and all trainings for this position

Incentives are provided through an American Rescue Plan grant and will be available until funds are exhausted.

Hours/Shift
Monday - Friday 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM.

Monthly Staff Meetings:
Second Tuesday each month 6:30 - 8:30 PM.
Other hours may be required for meetings, trainings, and events.
